Martin Hanzal Suspended One Game For Boarding

NEW YORK - Phoenix Coyotes forward Martin Hanzal has been suspended for one game for boarding Los Angeles Kings forward Dustin Brown during Game 2 of the teams’ Western Conference Final playoff series Tuesday in Phoenix, the National Hockey League’s Department of Player Safety announced today.

The incident occurred at 11:01 of the third period. Hanzal was assessed a major penalty and game misconduct for boarding.

He's very lucky to only receive one game.

Doan shouldn't have received a suspension. Even the media wimps on TV agree on that, so that says a lot. But Hanzal definitely should have received more than one game.

Considering some of the crap we've seen some guys get suspended for, Doan could have got a game or two.

Hanzal is certainly deserving of the suspension. I really don't understand the mentality of these players!

As for Doan, he does more than his share of stupid **** on the ice, but Lewis needs to take some responsibility for turning his face to the boards when Doan was only a few feet from finishing his check....

Well Doan got the "Star Treatment," truly. As a repeat offender it would/should have been more than 3 games had the hammer come down, but the ambiguous wheel of justice missed on this one IMO.

This is Bettman's team, so of course he wants them to win! Total conflict of interest here. Has anyone thought about this? This team is owed by the NHL! You think for a moment they are going to suspended more than one of their guys? The price goes up to the buyer of a team that is in the SCF or even higher for a team that has won the Cup. TOTAL BULLSH1T!!

You're an idiot.

please go to the ''NHL is rigging games'' topic.

nhl 100% wants a phoenix and new jersey final because that will draw the most fans to the TV. just like anaheim and ottawa did. In fact I believe that you're an undercover NHL rep. who's on here to make the forum look retarded. We're on to you pal.

dude...lewis into the boards just before doan hit him, not all on doan. secondly, the yotes have had 3 different guys suspended these playoffs and for game 3, will have multiple guys suspended as well. so just shut it with the theory, because the sale of the team is already agreed too as well you uninformed twit

So I guess Raffi Torres getting 20+ games never really happened to give them multiple suspensions.

Good try though, here's your gold star for effort!

Pretty much what a few of us expected. Had this happened during the regular season, I believe Hanzal probably would have gotten a few, but this is crunch time and honestly, I'm glad to see the suspension lifted a couple games due to the playoffs. Let Hanzal have to answer to the Kings in a few days. Chances are he'll be looking over both shoulders every time he enters a corner...wait, this is the new NHL- chances are he'll play even harder and look for the refs to cover his a$$. Time will tell, hope he has to defend himself one way or another. Had Brown been truly hurt and missing games, the suspension most likely would have been more. As for Doan, pretty much the same concept- playoff hockey. Had this happened mid season, 3+games for sure. Especially because of his past. It is not as though Shane Doan has never thrown a cheap hit. This could be a short series if PHNX doesn't up their game...

I suppose if Brown had not gotten up and embellished the sh1t out of it and milked it like Smith did vs Chicago, Hanzal would have gotten more games but Brown is not a cheap, soccer player piece of sh1t and got up so only 1 game.

The idiocy of Shanaban and the NHL never ceases to amaze me. Shouldn't it be the INTENT and not the result that determines the suspension?

And is this Hanzal's first offense? Why the fock should that matter? Again, it is the INTENT and the STUPIDITY and LACK OF RESPECT for the opponent shown here and that's what should be penalized, not because Brown got up or that it's Hanzal's first time, he broke his cherry trying to kill someone so let's go easy on him?

Hanzal is clearly guilty of intent to injure, he didn't even have to touch him but instead, gives a full on push which could have seriously hurt the player. HE TRIED TO HURT HIM!! What else could he have been thinking? It's 3-0, their team is playing like sh1t, captain is already tossed for another bullsh1t play, Hanzal is frustrated so why the hell not? Let's nail the bastards!!

1 game is ridiculous in my opinion. This sends absolutely no message to the rest of the players. And would the ban be longer in the regular season like some have said? That's absolutely focking retarded. Why would it be longer then? Not to punish the team? Really?? It's more ok to do it in the playoffs than in October?

The astronomical stupidity of all this just can't even be explained, I don't even know what to say anymore, it just makes no sense at all.

I thought this would have been 2-3 games, even though it's the playoffs. This was a pretty bad hit from behind by Hanzal, easily avoidable. Shanahan is too hopped up on whether things cause injury or not. This was an incredibly dangerous hit and Dustin Brown was very lucky to escape being injured on the play. Even though it's the playoffs, I didn't think the lack of injury would have absolved Hanzal to the point of only getting a single game suspension.

I do, however, agree with this being the only suspension-worthy infraction from the game (Shane Doan was correctly not punished since Lewis was very largely to blame for an incredibly stupid last second turn).
