Maple Leafs Trade David Steckel to Ducks for Ryan Lasch and Draft Pick

Toronto Maple Leafs Senior Vice-President and General Manager Dave Nonis announced Friday that the team has traded centreman David Steckel to the Anaheim Ducks. In exchange, the Maple Leafs will receive right-winger Ryan Lasch and Anaheim’s seventh-round pick in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft. Lasch will be assigned to the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League.

Lasch, 26, is a native of Lake Forest, California and was a free agent signing of the Ducks on May 31, 2012. He is currently playing in the Swedish Elite League with the Vaxjo Lakers. Lasch represented Team USA at the 2012 IIHF World Championship and collected two assists in seven games. Last season, he captured the Finnish Elite League scoring title by recording 62 points (24 goals and 38 assists). He earned 183 points (79 goals and 104 assists) in 161 career collegiate games with St. Cloud State (WCHA) from 2006 to 2010 to become the all-time leading scorer at the university.

Steckel had one assist in 13 games played with Toronto this season. He joined the Maple Leafs in a trade with New Jersey on October 4, 2011.

Lupul is back tomorrow (most likely), hence the move. Couldn't due waiver move due to lateness of it.

Depth and favor to Ducks. I could care less, good face off guy, and that's it.

Fills a need for the Ducks.

Needed 4th line center. And faceoff guy.

Steckel was a very good 4th line center last season but didn't look as good this season but I'm sure he'll be fine in Anaheim. I know Burkie loves him so I'm sure he had something to do with this trade.

I'm just happy that the Leafs were able to get something for Steckel instead of losing him on waivers, even if it was just a 7th round pick.

Ducks are serious playoff contenders, a simple little thing like adding a great faceoff guy could pay major dividends in the end. Winning FO's in your zone when on the PK is money in the bank, smart move by the Ducks.

My heart skipped a beat when I first heard this because I thought it was Fasch, the goalie sensation. Now that would've been a fleecing lol.

This is good, dropped a spare part for Toronto and filled a need for Anaheim, plus he's a better player than Rod Pelley was.

This shows the team's faith in McLaren and Orr as well. They could've easily put one of them on waivers. Now it looks like they'll alternate once Lupul is back, or another move is coming.
