Maple Leafs Sign Forward Chris DiDomenico

Signed to a three year entry-level deal.

Quote:
Brian Burke, president and general manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs, announced Saturday that the hockey club has signed forward Chris DiDomenico (dee-DOH-mehn-ih-koh) to a three-year entry level contract.

“Chris is a skilled offensive player that plays with a lot of grit,” said Burke. “He has shown the ability to compete and produce at a high level and we’re looking forward to his further growth and development in our organization.”

DiDomenico, a 20-year-old native of Toronto, Ontario, was selected by the Maple Leafs in the sixth round, 164th overall, in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft. He suited up in one NHL preseason game on September 26, 2008 with Toronto, collecting two penalty minutes in 12:11 of ice time against Pittsburgh.

In 50 games this season with the QMJHL’s Saint John Sea Dogs and Drummondville Voltigeurs, DiDomenico registered 58 points (18 goals, 40 assists) with 62 penalty minutes and a plus 16 rating. The 5-11, 176-pound forward was traded from Saint John to Drummondville on January 6, 2009.

DiDomenico has played 190 career QMJHL games over three seasons (2006 to 2009) with the Sea Dogs and Voltigeurs, posting 82 goals and 146 assists for 228 points with 225 penalty minutes.

In 2007-08, DiDomenico led Saint John in assists (56), points (95), was second in goals (39) and finished fifth overall in QMJHL scoring. He was also named the QMJHL’s Offensive Player of the Month in October 2007 with 12 points (seven goals, five assists) and a plus eight (+8) rating in six games.

Internationally, DiDomenico won a gold medal with Team Canada at the 2009 World Junior Hockey Championships in Ottawa. In six games he posted two goals and five assists for seven points with four penalty minutes and a plus four (+4) rating.

He'll be a very good third line player. One of Leafs few good picks.
