Maple Leafs Sign Colton Orr to Two-Year Contract Extension

Toronto Maple Leafs General Manager Dave Nonis announced Thursday that the team has signed Colton Orr to a new two-year NHL contract.

Orr, 31, joined the Maple Leafs as a free agent on July 1, 2009. He played in 44 of 48 regular season games for Toronto this past season and collected four points (1 goal, 3 assists) while leading the NHL in penalty minutes with 155. Orr was ‘even or plus’ in 41 of his 44 appearances in 2012-13 and he played in all seven of the team’s playoff games against the Bruins in May.

The native of Winnipeg, Manitoba played his 400th career NHL game March 7, 2013 at Boston and he played the full 82-game schedule in consecutive seasons in 2008-09 with the Rangers and 2009-10 with the Maple Leafs. The 1,000th penalty minute of his 10-year career came March 21, 2013 at Buffalo.

He was originally signed by the Boston Bruins as a free agent on September 19, 2001 and he was claimed on waivers by New York on November 29, 2005.

Champ locked up another two years, can't go wrong with that. Next up: McLaren.

Sickening how many Leafs fans are complaining about Orr being re-signed. Those anti-fighting dipsh*ts will be suicidal once the Leafs give Frazer McLaren and Mark Fraser new deals too in the next couple weeks.

IMO Orr's fighting ability has declined over the past year or two and he has become increasingly inconsistent with the gloves off but he still enforces better than anybody else in the league so I'm glad they got him locked up.

McLaren should be back as well. He's only a RFA.

It's cause the media dicks in Toronto pull stats outta there ass that I didn't even know were calculated only 3 years ago and these clowns buy into it. It's pathetic.

They gotta put down the keyboard and pick up a stick before they spew out some of the trash they do.

great signing. i was hoping he made it to FA and came to philly. colton orr is probably the best pure enforcer in the game. id take him on my team 7 days a week and twice on sunday.

didnt someone drop him last year?

Rosehill more or less, but it was a **** fight and more of an unbalance on Orr's part.

wow thats cheap. it was smart to get colton signed right away.

i wish the people that dont understand the fighting aspect the game , just wouldnt comment on fighting and fighters. they dont realize the space and chances they do create and how important momentuem and confidence is in a hockey game which a fighter also brings to the table aswell.

Dam, I was hoping he would hit the market and the B's signed him. Thornton at age 36 next season is getting up there in age. Would have been nice to have both on the roster.

Either way great news for Orr, Leafs fans, and the rest of us. IMO he is the best true enforcer left in the NHL. Nice to see him get rewarded for his efforts.
