Maple Leafs Re-Sign Bates Battaglia

John Ferguson, vice-president and general manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs, announced Tuesday that the club has re-signed forward Bates Battaglia to a two-year contract.

“We are very happy to have Bates back with us,” said Ferguson. “He provides great durability and versatility, and will continue to play an important role with the hockey club this season.”

Battaglia, 31, was one of six players this past season to play in all 82 games for the Maple Leafs, during which he registered 12 goals, 19 assists and 31 points, along with 45 penalty minutes. He ranked second on the team and led all forwards with a +9 plus/minus rating.

During his NHL career, Battaglia has played in 80 or more games in a season on four occasions (2000-01, 2001-02, 2002-03 & 2006-07). Battaglia’s best season statistically was in 2001-02 with Carolina when he skated in 82 games and earned career highs in goals (21), assists (25) and points (46).

Battaglia has played in 567 NHL games with Carolina, Colorado, Washington and Toronto collecting 198 points (80 goals, 118 assists) with 378 penalty minutes. The Chicago native was originally Anaheim’s sixth choice, 132nd overall, in the 1994 NHL Entry Draft.

At that price he's a great signing... No risk.

Good character? Have you met Boots? He's not the only criminal NHL owner... What has this league become...
