I don't think Burke did that great of a job in TO, having said that it certainly looked like he was handcuffed a bit and didn't have full financial support from ownership like Holmgren has in Philly. The truth will come out soon enough and then Burke can be judged fairly.

I agree, we have way more depth too than we did when he took over.

Nonis is GM and Burke got hired as senior advisor. A lot a rumors that he was fired because he wouldnt trade Kadri/Gardiner for Luongo.

His first move in Vancouver was trading fo Luongo from Florida, so who knows.

Hope they keep Kadri, get him a fair shot.

to take on that contract it should be Vancouver sweetening the pot not the team that takes him.

Bizarre move with the start of the season so close, as others have said though I'm sure it all will be revealed over the coming days..

Anyone else curious as to why Burke would hang around Toronto and in a lesser role. With the size of his ego I find this puzzling. Could it be health or family issues. What am I missing?

Oh the hilarity. We have the Leafs "board" saying they were considering firing Burke after last season. They didn't believe in his decision making abilities, and were questioning his judgement.

So what did they do about that?

They leave him in control of the team and let him go into free agency time and spend money. They let him acquire players he feels will help the team. They allow him to re-sign RFA's and continue to mold the team how he wants it. And best of f*cking all, They let him trade Luke Schenn.

They allow him all that clout, yet apparently didn't trust his ability to run the club? Are you f*cking kidding me?

Those clowns have either just admitted to being a spineless group of p*ssies who took an astounding 7 months to make this call, or they're lying.

I think they're lying. I don't think there was any intention of firing Burke like this. I think something went down very recently and the decision was made to quickly pull the plug.

New Leafs owners said to dislike Burke from get-go

Quote:
Executives of BCE and Rogers Communications, who together control 75 per cent of the sports franchise, found Mr. Burke defensive and brusque – difficult to work with, the source said.

It was in that meeting that the early seeds of a personality clash were sown, sources close to Rogers and Bell said. Soon after, BCE chief executive officer George Cope (**** you and die), unsure that Mr. Burke was the right man to lead the team forward, began discussing a search for a new GM with his colleagues at Rogers.

...

“New ownership didn’t like him,” the source said. “Fundamentally, they wanted a GM who would listen – for better or worse. They said they want a corporate guy and fired a Harvard lawyer.”
They wanted a corporate puppet.
