Maple Leafs assign Joe Colborne to AHL, clear room for Armstrong's return

The Toronto Maple Leafs assigned forward Joe Colborne to their American Hockey League affiliate on Thursday.

Colborne had a goal and three assists in nine games since being called up from the Toronto Marlies on Nov. 19.

The move clears a roster space for right-winger Colby Armstrong. He hasn't played since Oct. 19 due to an injured left ankle, but is expected to be ready for Toronto's road game against the Washington Capitals on Friday.

Armstrong has yet to record a point in five games this season.
Colborne has 19 points (10-9) in 13 games with the Marlies.

Good taste of where he'll likely be for all of next year. They should send someone (probably Joey Crabb even though he's done well) down and call up Zigomanis. Steckel is having hand problems and Zigomanis is a good faceoff guy who can play on the fourth line and give him a break every so often.

Colborne needs some strength, wind could blow him over. But he did alright. Crabb keeps growing on me, except for fighting with a visor on. This teams plays way better with Colby in the lineup.

They got Colborne in the Kaberle trade.

Thanks for the correction.

Now that doesn't answer the main question: how did he do with the Maple Leafs?

Would have preferred Dupuis to be honest with you.

Man you gotta learn to read. Details/stats were in the first post and he's being sent down and replaced by a guy with no points. There's all the info you need right there.

In retrospect, B's made a bad move in trading Colborne for Kaberle but neither team was really hurt by it. Colborne wasn't exactly ready to play last year or this year so its no surprise he's heading back down to the AHL. As much as I hate the Leafs, I hope he learns the right way to play (aka don't be like Kessel... play tough two-way hockey) and becomes a solid+ player soon.

Kessel of last year, not this year. Even goes into the corners now and backchecks, shocker.

Can't say that I've seen that but I don't follow the Leafs too closely. Only see him in the games against the B's and as you probably know... he's something like 2G-2A-4pts and like -10 in his career against the B's.

Chara smoked him in the corner a few days ago, and I think it's more like 7 points in 16 games and -14 vs Boston, brutal.

Having a riot starter like Colby Armstrong in the lineup is even more of a reason to have Orr or Rosehill dressed on a consistent basis. The p*ssies that are these Toronto Maple would rather have the likes of Matt Frattin and Philip Dupuis making up the 4th line though instead of the muscle Brian Burke is known for and promised.

It's very disappointing.

These are my Leafs. It's awesome that they're playing well, but I can't f*cken stand that they play like women on most nights. It's a sickening, vicious cycle of love/hate.
