Los Angeles Picks Up Fredrik Modin From Columbus
LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles Kings have acquired forward Fredrik Modin from the Columbus Blue Jackets for a conditional seventh round selection in the 2010 NHL Draft, Kings President/General Manager Dean Lombardi announced today.
Modin, 35, has recorded six points (2-4=6) and 12 penalty minutes in 24 games with the Blue Jackets this season while serving as an alternate captain. He missed the first 31 games this season due to injury. The 6-4, 218-pound native of Sundsvall, Sweden has played 838 career games in the NHL (with Toronto, Tampa Bay and Columbus), posting 447 points (222-225=447) and 425 penalty minutes. Modin, who won a Stanley Cup with Tampa Bay in 2004, has registered 22 points (11-11=22) and 40 penalty minutes in 51 career NHL postseason games. He will wear No. 33 with the Kings. The veteran forward is a five-time 20-goal scorer and two-time 30-goal scorer. With Tampa Bay, he accumulated a career-high 32 goals in 2000-01 and 28 assists, 57 points and a plus-31 rating (which was fourth in the NHL) in 2003-04. He was an All-Star in 2001 and recorded four assists in the game, tied for the second highest total in All-Star Game history. Modin was selected by Toronto in the third round (64th overall) in the 1994 NHL Entry Draft and spent three seasons with the Maple Leafs (1996-97 through 1998-99) before being traded to Tampa Bay, where he played six seasons and served as an alternate captain. The Blue Jackets acquired Modin from Tampa Bay on June 30, 2006. Internationally, Modin has represented his native Sweden several times, most recently at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. He won a gold medal for Team Sweden at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Torino. He’s also played for Sweden at the World Championships (1996, 1998, 2000, 2001) World Cup (2005) and World Junior Championships (1994). Modin is one of 23 members of the Triple Gold Club, comprised of players who have won a Stanley Cup and a gold medal in both the Olympics and World Championships. Modin won a Stanley Cup with Tampa Bay in 2004, earned a gold medal for Sweden at the Olympics in 2006 and earned a gold medal for Sweden a the 1998 World Championships. i agreee! once upon a time he was a 30 goal scorer, but that was 5 years ago. he's been injured a lot since then. that would probably explain the 7th round value.
