Forget about that everyone in the World follows the NHL like mad especially in Sweden where the league has a quality and especially now when the NHL is one big joke overall. As for your teenage remark about the arena capacity, hockey european countries like Sweden, Finland or Czech republic have around 7 or 10 milions of people. That means of course the arenas are smaller you university mathematic proffesor Your aproach is exactly what A LOT of people in the World ´´love´´ about north america and its citizens. Forget that everything what is from north america is best for the people in the rest of the World

Yeah, some of the comments are a little ignorant towards the European leagues - Hockey in Russia, Czech republic, Sweden, Finland and Switzerland is huge, and they are regularly selling out a lot of the games. Arenas in the top Swiss league hold between 6 - 8000 as a rule, with Zurich holding 11,000 and Bern holding 17,100 - Bern average between 15 and 16,000 over the last 7 years. As a league average, teams are selling 80% of the tickets per game over a season - Bern, between 90 and 95%!
Davos, where Thornton and Nash are based now, as they were during the last lockout, is the highest city in Europe at 1600m above sea level, and has only 10,000 residents. HC Davos average 5000 per match - the arena holds 7100, but obviously not too accessable in high winter so this attendance average is fantastic too. Going to watch Zug v Davos tomorrow, with Nash, Thornton against Omark, Diaz (Montreal) Damian Brunner (New Redwing, quoted as top 6 forward by Babcock) and possibly Zetterberg who signed today.

With that attendance in european leagues considering the total ammount of the respective countries citizens NHL arenas should be built for 200 000 people and the teams should sell them out

The most interesting case in European Icehockey is the HC Ambri-Piotta.
Ambri-Piotta is a small double communal with a population of approximitely 300 people. A pretty small market team. Nonetheless an average of 4.500-5.000 fans are in the stadium every game, and the team usually plays at the bottom of the standings just about every year. European fans go to watch their team and not their players, if with or without NHL players fans will come to the stadiums anyways. But in all this you have to take into consideration that NHL ticket prices are way higher then prices in Europe. I bet in cities like Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver and others you could have attendances of 50.000 if ticket prices would be as low as in Europe.

Standing tickets start at equivalent 30 dollars, cheapest seats at 60 dollars. Playoff matches in Bern for the same tickets are 100 dollars and 150 dollars

In Italy you pay between 10 and 40 dollars, but the hockey you get to see is not even worth that amount.
