Lightning Sign Free Agent Defenseman Todd Rohloff

The 2004 Stanley Cup Champion Tampa Bay Lightning have signed unrestricted free agent defensman Todd Rohloff to a one-year contract, Executive Vice President & General Manager Jay Feaster announced today.

Rohloff, 31, appeared in 12 games with Rochester of the American Hockey League in 2004-05 before suffering a season-ending injury. The 6-foot-2, 218-pound native of Grand Rapids, Minnesota, has appeared in 75 career NHL games with Washington and Columbus recording six assists and 40 penalty minutes. He made is NHL debut with the Capitals during the 2001-02 season and started 2003-04 in Columbus before being claimed off waivers by the Capitals.

"Todd is a veteran player with NHL experience,” Feaster said. “He will come to camp with an opportunity to compete for a spot on our blueline, along with several other players. Regardless of the outcome of the battle for the 6th defenseman spot in Tampa, we believe Todd significantly upgrades our depth on defense, and from all accounts, he is a quality person who will fit in well with our organization."
Rohloff was a teammate of Lightning defenseman Dan Boyle for four seasons at Miami (Ohio) University, where he recorded seven goals and 27 assists in 116 career games. He has skated for Indianapolis and Cleveland of the International Hockey League and Portland, Syracuse and Rochester of the AHL.
