Lightning Re-Sign Nate Thompson

Quote:
Tampa Bay Lightning signs center Nate Thompson to one-year deal, avoids arbitration
The Tampa Bay Lightning avoided arbitration with Nate Thompson by signing the center to a one-year, $625,000 deal.

Thompson, 25, had a goal and four points in 32 games for Tampa Bay after being claimed off waivers in January from the Islanders. Still, Thompson became a valuable defensive player and helped out on the penalty kill. Good for both sides for avoiding arbitration, a messy process that sometimes leaves hard feelings.

im happy for nasty nate.. but im sure the lightning fans dont like it. hes pretty decent on the penalty kill, but in a game lacking pentalties hes like tits on a bull, and a spot on the bench that couyld be used for something else. hopefully him and matt martin meet up again at some point in the season.

The Bolts don't have to worry about that. They still have players they're paying MILLIONS of dollars who can still drop the gloves. I.e. Malone, Downie, Hedman.

If Thompson has to drop the gloves more, i can't say i'll be surprised. I actually do like him as in terms of an addition to the squad. I just wish we could replace the toughness missing from the loss of Fedoruk and Konopka.

No one should be relying on Mitch Fritz. And Matt Walker isn't exactly going to be able to consistently defuse teams like Atlanta. But i think we'll be okay against FLA, Carolina and Wash. The rest of the East Coast is going to kill us. Especially Philly, New York...the Islanders.....:::insert team:::

im still amazed the bolts are giving fritz a shot. the guys is just too ****in slow to do anything. by the time he tries to react to something the play is already in the other zone. he gets tired so quickly as well.

when he came the island the excitement quickly dulled out. people were amazed as his size and presence on the ice/ but, he wasnt able to do anything of value, and was a complete defensive liability.

Fedoruk could still hit like a truck. And whether he had to answer the bell or someone else, his presence could be felt.....though not always on a reliable nightly basis. Fridge still brought a lot to the lockeroom, and was someone who the younger guys could look up to.

He'll also always be this guy

Hell, I would rather have Eric Cairns come out of retirement over settling for an occasional appearance by Hurricane Fritz.

I would love to see Fritz playing for the Bolts and watching to see him making his way to be a Top 5 Fighter -
But I am no Lightnings Fan so I dont give a **** if he is an liability for them on the ice.

I know for sure that Fritz is an great Fighter, great Team Guy, well liked by his teammates and great Enforcer -
