Lightning Re-Sign Evan Oberg to One-Year Contract

TAMPA BAY – The Tampa Bay Lightning have re-signed defenseman Evan Oberg to a one-year, two-way contract, vice president and general manager Steve Yzerman announced today.

Oberg, 24, played in three games with the Lightning last season, recording a plus-2 rating. He was acquired by the Lightning with Mike Kostka from the Florida Panthers on December 2 in exchange for James Wright and Mike Vernace. He made his Lightning debut on January 24 against the Columbus Blue Jackets. Oberg has skated in seven career NHL games with the Vancouver Canucks and Lightning.

The 6-foot, 191-pound defenseman also played in 54 games this past season in the American Hockey League with the Norfolk Admirals and San Antonio Rampage. The Forestburg, Alberta native skated in 42 games with the Admirals, recording seven goals and 23 points to go along with a plus-15 rating. Oberg played in 12 games with the Rampage, posting two assists and 14 penalty minutes. He also appeared in 18 Calder Cup playoff games with Norfolk, notching two goals and 10 points, helping them to their first Calder Cup Championship. Oberg ranked tied for fourth on the Admirals in assists with eight during the playoffs.

Oberg has played in 167 career AHL games with Norfolk, San Antonio, the Rochester Americans and the Manitoba Moose, collecting 17 goals and 64 points, to go along with 138 penalty minutes. He has also skated in 23 career Calder Cup playoff games, collecting three goals and 12 points.
