Worser nominations go to Sather and Gainey.

Tough to argue against it after a deal like that.

Ohlund will get 22.5 of the 24.5 in the next 5 years.
That makes it not as bad, still a rediculous signing though.

Honestly this day and age just about any guy can play till he's 38 or 39 years old. 35 isn't over the hill in hockey anymore. I still don't think Ohlund deserves a contract of that length, but it's not his age that's a factor. He's a second tier defense man.

He's better than Lukas Kricjk or however his name is spelled. But this team really misses the Sarich's and OB's of our past. Hell, anyone would be better than the guys we have now.

Ohlund has been one of the NHLs most underrated defensemen for years and years - I'm gonna miss him in Vancouver and wish him all the best in Tampa.

Odjick29 is right - he's far from soft and I've always thought was the best all round defenseman to ever play for the Canucks. He improves the Lightning's defence corps right away.

That being said - I thought his play has slipped in the past season - way more mistakes from him than we were usually used to seeing. He still has some solid years of hockey in him, and he's worth the money, but I'm shaking my head at the length of the deal - 3 or 4 years maybe, but surely not 7. Good luck Matty, I think you're going to need it.

I think Ohlund is a great pickup for a Tampa Bay blueline that needed some major rebuilding. He should be very good in the role of a mentor for Hedman while he makes the adjustment to playing in the NHL.

But 7 years is way too long for a defenseman who's getting up there in age. I'm not saying he's going to be over the hill in a year, but I'm pretty sure he will be by the time he's still got a year or two left on the deal. At least they front-loaded the money. So good acquisition, I just don't like the tenure.

Karma's a bitch! Shouldn't have dissed the sedins like that and maybe this couldn't have happened.

I don't care about the Canucks but I'm just saying your eating your own words now, and it doesn't help that ohlund is from Sweden LOL Lawton is trying to be like the wings.

No more konopka in the NHL anymore I guess.

I can't say i blame Lawton for putting in the 7 years. How else could you get a player like Ohlund to come to a ****hole, circus organization like the Lightning. Especially with all the distractions and instability that has been so well noticed by the rest of the hockey world. I suppose the potential consequences had to be risked. That or Lawton is trying to get the Islanders organization to notice how great he is at his job.

If Ohlund played for Detroit he would immediately become the toughest guy on that team.
