Lightning Acquire Jean-Francois Jacques From Panthers

TAMPA BAY – The Tampa Bay Lightning have acquired forward Jean-Francois Jacques from the Florida Panthers in exchange for future considerations, vice president and general manager Steve Yzerman announced today.

Jacques, 27, has played in 24 games this season with the San Antonio Rampage of the American Hockey League, collecting five goals and seven points to go along with 37 penalty minutes. The 6-foot-3, 231-pound left winger ranks tied for first on the Rampage with three power play goals.

The Montreal, Quebec native has skated in 166 career NHL games with the Edmonton Oilers and Anaheim Ducks, recording nine goals and 17 points to go along with 197 penalty minutes. Last season Jacques appeared in six games with the Ducks and tallied 12 penalty minutes.

I think Jaques can actually play, he's a decent 4th liner if given the chance.

Jaques is a pretty tough player, plenty of grit, just not sure how this factors in with the Lightning, they have their lineup set and scratched 3 guys from game 1. JFJ adds 3rd or 4th line depth? Ok. He might be better than Labrie, hard to say.

Yeah, I don't see too many NHL deals getting done for "future considerations."

I wasn't directly involved with the negotiations, but I'm fairly certain Yzerman told Bowman he'd buy him a happy meal for completing this deal.

Again, I can't confirm that, but that's unofficially been reported as the clincher for this deal.

This sounds fairly accurate...

I like this, If JFJ can stay healthy he'll add depth to both the Crunch and Bolts. He has a solid game is a capable 3rd/4th liner who can throw 'em and dish out some solid hits, not to mention he has some soft hands in regards to his offensive abilities!

Labrie isn't to Shabby on the puck either, he has showed his abilities for both the Ads & Crunch. But JFJ(when healthy) has shown more consistency in the big show, but that in part comes from him having more time in the NHL(Oilers days). I'd be willing to bet if Labrie were to get 25+ or so games in back to back seasons he'd show similar potential to JFJ.

It goes back to the old school enforcer being phased out in favor of guys who can grind, forecheck, set up scoring opportunities etc.

That's annoying...

The Bolts also have BJ Crombeen, it'll be interesting to see how it all plays out in the short season. I'd love to see Crombeen on the 3rd line and JFJ get 15 or so games on the 4th. But with Stevie Y you never know what the fuck he'll do!
