Lightning Acquire Fedoruk and Hale From Phoenix for Vrbata

The Tampa Bay Lightning have acquired left wing Todd Fedoruk and defenseman David Hale from the Phoenix Coyotes today in exchange for right wing Radim Vrbata, Executive Vice President and General Manager Brian Lawton announced today.

"We are pleased to make a trade today that makes good sense for both teams," Lawton said upon making the announcement. "Lightning fans will be pleased to see we have added some size and toughness up front with Todd, while David helps us continue to add depth to our blue line. At the same time, Radim moves back to Phoenix where he has experienced some success in the past."

Fedoruk, 6-foot-2, 236 pounds, has played in 495 career games with Phoenix, the Minnesota Wild, Dallas Stars, Philadelphia Flyers and Anaheim Ducks. He has accumulated 29 career goals and 91 points with two power play goals and 996 penalty minutes. Fedoruk also won the AHL’s Calder Cup in 2005 with the Philadelphia Phantoms.

A native of Redwater, Alberta, Fedoruk played in 72 games with the Coyotes last season, recording six goals and 13 points while averaging 10:35 in ice time per game. He was tied for fourth on the team in penalty minutes and he tied his career high for goals in a season.

Fedoruk, 30, was drafted by the Flyers in the seventh round, 164th overall, of the 1997 NHL Entry Draft. He signed with Phoenix as a free agent on July 1, 2008.

Hale, 6-foot-1, 215 pounds, has played in 263 NHL games with Phoenix, the Calgary Flames and the New Jersey Devils, recording three goals and 20 points. He has played in 17 career Stanley Cup Playoff games, recording two assists. Before 2008-09, Hale participated in the Stanley Cup Playoffs in each of the previous four seasons (2004-2008) with New Jersey and Calgary. Hale went directly from the University of North Dakota, where he played in 104 games with 10 goals and 26 points, to the NHL where he played in 65 games with New Jersey in 2003-04.

A native of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Hale played in 48 games with Phoenix last season. He established career highs for goals with three, assists with six and points with nine. Hale’s 15:08 in average ice time was the second highest of his career to date.

Hale was drafted by New Jersey in the first round, 22nd overall, of the 2000 NHL Entry Draft. He also represented Team USA in the 2001 World Junior Championships.

HAHA.

Even though I don't like Vrbata, both Fedoruk and Hale are useless. At least Vrbata will give us 25-30 goals

This is a good deal for Tampa. Especially shedding all that salary that Vrbata has.
