Leopold Out Three Months After Hernia Surgery

DENVER – The Colorado Avalanche Hockey Club announced that defenseman Jordan Leopold underwent successful surgery to repair a hernia this afternoon and is expected to make a full recovery.

“After further medical testing and evaluation it was determined that rehabilitation alone wouldn’t correct the problem,” said Avalanche Head Trainer Matt Sokolowski. “We expect him to be back to full speed in 10-12 weeks.”

Leopold, 25, was acquired from the Calgary Flames on June 24 along with Calgary’s second round draft selection in this year’s draft (Codey Burki) and the Flames’ second round pick in 2007 in exchange for forward Alex Tanguay.

Could this news be any more predictable for this offseason for the Avalanche? Can we not have any good news?!?

I was feeling like the Avs haven't done anything stupid in a couple weeks, what now?

I was hoping that Leopold would have a break-through year, but this isn't exactly what I had in mind.

Geez, this makes that trade an even better one for the Avs. Not....

There were so many moves in such a short period of time that I never really paid enough attention...
I knew the Flames got Tanguay, but for Leopold and two 2nd round picks???
WTF???

I think the Avs are one bad break away from disaster.

That would have taken some big balls for Calgary to have traded an injured player.
