Leafs Trade Keith Aulie to Tampa Bay
Brian Burke, President and General Manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs, announced Monday that the team has obtained forward Carter Ashton from the Tampa Bay Lightning. In exchange, the Maple Leafs sent defenceman Keith Aulie to the Lightning.
Ashton, 20, was a first-round draft choice (29th overall) of Tampa Bay in the 2009 Entry Draft. He has 19 goals and 16 assists in 56 games played this season with the Norfolk Admirals of the American Hockey League. Ashton participated in the 2009 CHL Top Prospects Game. The Winnipeg, Manitoba native is the son of former NHL player Brent who played in 998 career NHL regular season games with nine teams over 14 seasons. Aulie had two assists in 17 games for the Leafs in 2011-12. Last edited by Thrillhouse; 02-27-2012 at 02:34 PM. |

i guess yzerman does not like his ahl team to be better than the nhl team. Way to trade one of the better players for the #1 team in the ahl. i just have a feeling tampa is not done tearing norfolk apart today.

This is about as far as a trade can be IMO...a big young forward for a bigger young D, this is just addressing each organization's needs...what's the problem here? |

I like this one for the Leafs - Aulie could still yet be a good d-man in this league, but the Leafs have a crowded blueline and he effectively lost his job earlier in the year, never got it back, and looked a little lost when he did get back into the lineup. Ashton is a fine prospect and in a few years could look real good with that Colbourne kid playing on the same line. 20 goal scorer in his year in the AHL, tons of potential there.
