Leafs Sign Rookie Brent Aubin

John Ferguson, vice-president and general manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs, announced Friday the hockey club has signed forward Brent Aubin to an NHL entry level contract.

Aubin, a 20-year-old native of Ste. Sophie, Quebec, earned 11 points (two goals, nine assists) in four games at the Toronto Maple Leafs Rookie Tournament held last weekend at Ricoh Coliseum. Aubin led the tournament in assists and tied the Maple Leafs’ John Mitchell for most points.

Aubin split the 2005-06 season between the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies and the Quebec Remparts of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. In 72 games, Aubin registered 57 goals and 60 assists for 117 points. Aubin ranked third in QMJHL goals and sixth in points. In the playoffs, Aubin tallied 27 points (12 goals, 15 assists) and helped lead Quebec to a Memorial Cup Championship.

Aubin has played 277 career games over four seasons in the QMJHL earning 300 points on 141 goals and 159 assists, along with 228 penalty minutes.

Aubin has been assigned to Quebec (QMJHL), where he has been named team captain and will look to lead the Remparts to a second consecutive Memorial Cup.
