Leafs Sign Mike Brown to Three-Year Extension
Brian Burke, President and General Manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs, announced Wednesday that forward Mike Brown has signed a new multi-year contract with the Leafs.
“We are extremely pleased to have Mike under contract for the next three years,” said Burke. “His blend of character, energy and toughness has proven to be a good fit in the overall structure and makeup of our team.” Brown has two goals and three assists in 26 games for the Leafs this season. He has a team high plus 3 mark and 41 minutes in penalties. Brown, 25, joined the Maple Leafs on June 26, 2010 from the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for Toronto’s fifth-round draft pick in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft. In 169 career NHL games with Anaheim, Vancouver and Toronto, the native of Northbrook, Illinois has registered 11 goals and six assists for 17 points with 347 penalty minutes. Brown was originally selected by the Canucks in the fifth round, 159th overall, at the 2004 NHL Entry Draft. The 5-11, 205 pound forward appeared in 189 career games in the American Hockey League with the Manitoba Moose from 2005 to 2008. Prior to his professional career, Brown attended the University of Michigan for two years from 2003 to 2005 and accumulated 11 goals, 10 assists, 21 points and 146 penalty minutes in 77 games. |

Everyone needs to be a superstar, teams no longer make depth signings.

Awesome. Brown has been much better than I thought he would be this year and has been one of the best penalty killers on the team.
Edit- According to Pierre Lebrun, Brown's cap hit will be around $725k. Last edited by grits207; 02-02-2011 at 12:20 PM. |

Every team needs these players, couple/few at least and some other guys who drops the gloves 5-7x per season.
I am not very impressed of Torontos stara Phil Kessel. |

Of course the Leaf bashers are out in full force, with their panties in a twist. His 3 year deal is a bargain, considering he's one of the best penalty killers on the team, and possibly the fastest skater, and will stick up for himself and other teammates. In only his 2nd game back from a broken finger, he fought Hendricks. And he's NOT the punching bag he's been in previous years. Do people even watch his fights, or do they just automatically assume since he's on the Leafs, gotta bash him?

Good for Brown, he deserves it. It's been a tough year for him with injury and suspension but when he's played he has been real good!
A fighter is better than no fighter no matter how crappy his fights may be. Plus he hits like a brick. |

I completely agree with I am Belak, as Brown has improved dramatically this year.
I was the BIGGEST Brown hater during his time with the Nucks and Ducks, as he was a perennial kneecap rapist that hugged until he could pull off the BS single-leg takedown. But he seems to have turned a new.....Leaf (sorry) this year, and I haven't seen him go for the takedown once. He was having a great year until he got hurt, and should be an excellent option for those not willing to tussle with Orr. I think it is a good signing, and he should add some nice depth in the toughness dept for the Leafs. I really don't think we should complain at all when any team is willing to offer a tough guy a contract.

Haha of course not. They just look at what everyone else on here says and go with it. F*cking sheep. Mike Brown falls in every fight. All Brashear does is hug. Orr is declining. Parros has no balance. I'm sure you could go on
