Leafs Send Tlusty to Carolina
Brian Burke, president and general manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs, announced Thursday that the team has acquired forward Philippe Paradis from the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for forward Jiri Tlusty.
Paradis, 18, was selected by Carolina in the first round, 27th overall, in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft in Montreal. The 6-1, 206-pound native of Normandin, Quebec has registered 19 points (8 goals, 11 assists) and 43 penalty minutes in 26 games with the Shawinigan Cataractes of the QMJHL this season. Paradis has played 137 games with Shawinigan over three seasons (2007-2009), posting 38 goals and 54 assists for 92 points with 161 penalty minutes. Yeah posting pictures of your dick isn't very truculent. Burkie knows what's up.

A good move to try and "speed up" the rebuilding phase that we're about to burn through hopefully... If anything it just highlights our ****ty drafting. |

Good. Tlusty has potential, so it's a good pickup for Carolina fans, but he wasnt working out here. Too much pressure on him, and the coach didnt like him.
I'm glad with this because we get rid of someone who wasnt working out, and get someone who is big, physical, and still only 18. It's like getting a first rounder, considering he went in the 1st round last year. |

Purse Swinging, P*ssy, Pascifist, Poontang Paul Maurice must have gotten tired of exchanging e-mails with Tlusty and finally convinced Rutherford to just go out and get him.

Tlusty wasn't going to make the top six in Toronto, who already have too many small, skilled players.
In a few years, Paradis might make the bottom six forwards. He might even develop into a presence in front of the other team's net, which the Leafs lack. This seems ok...only time will tell, but I doubt Tlusty becomes a top six forward on any team. |

Some really interesting points from other boards. Now I understand:
Tlusty is an RFA at the end of the year. Perhaps he made it clear he wouldn't sign in Toronto and forced Burke's hand? It's unlikely we would have gotten a first for him if he walked, so perhaps Burke liked grabbing Paradis instead of a second Also, Tlusty loses waiver eligibility status if he plays in a few more NHL games. ...So Burke was just getting something instead of losing Tlusty for nothing Plus if you want more small skilled forwards, Kadri shows way more promise. He's the real future. |

Prospect Grade: 7.0 7 - Second line forward / No. 3-4 defenseman / journeyman No. 1 goaltender -- players not quite good enough to play on the top line or pairing on a regular basis, but still possessing enough talent to contribute offensively, defend with some authority, or competently play the goaltender's position for long stretches. So maybe not as bad as you thought. Time will tell. |
