Leafs Recall Phil Oreskovic and Anton Stralman

The Toronto Maple Leafs announced Sunday that defencemen Phil Oreskovic and Anton Stralman have been recalled from the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League (AHL).

Oreskovic, 22, will be looking to make his NHL debut tomorrow evening at Ottawa. In 59 games with the Marlies this season, he has recorded one goal, eight assists, 94 penalty minutes and a team-high plus 15 mark. Last season he appeared in 54 regular season games for the Marlies (1g, 9a) and 13 games (0g, 4a) for Columbia of the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL).

Stralman, 22, has seven goals, eight assists, 24 penalty minutes and a plus six rating in 30 games for the Marlies in 2008-09. In 29 contests for the Maple Leafs this season, he has collected one goal and eight assists to go along with 12 minutes in penalties.

Good to see Toronto actually giving some of their tough kids (Ondrus, Oreskovic) a shot.

Sweet that Oreskovic is up. He's a big defenseman that'll take on both heavies and middles. Also has twice the balls and twice the dignity that that ***** Deveaux has.

Oreskovic is my favourite fighter in the Leafs organization.

Young, good fighter and not afraid to take on the heavys..

What does Kris Newbury have to do to get a legit shot?

However, it's great to see first Ondrus and now Oreskovic get a shot, hopefully he'll find a few takers while he's up.

I think Kris Newbury is injured, isn't he? Either way the Leafs have enough gritty middleweights in their line up.. what they need is some beef who can handle the big boys and hopefully Oreskovic can be that guy.

Oreskovic will be able to handle the Shawn Thorntons, Eric Boultons, Chris Neils, Riley Cotes, ect.

Don't expect Oreskovic to fair good against the Donald Brashears, Wade Belaks, Derek Boogaards, etc.

I hate saying that, but I think it is true. But I hope he proves me wrong. I'm just glad to see him up. It's been a long time coming.

Good news.

Great to see the Leafs getting tougher.

Brian Burke is the perfect GM for this team.

Hopefully Oreskovic is impressive enough to be able to stick around for a while with the Leafs, or atleast move up a bit on the depth chart.
