Leafs management just wanted to make the locker room more upbeat.

In all seriousness, Hollweg is gonna answer the bell and fight more as a Leaf (this doesn't mean u will get quality but u will get quantity.) He was the Rangers HW basically before Orr came around (05-06 season and the beginning of 06-07.) I think Hollweg's fight totals will be in the 10-15 range if he plays like 60+ games.

If you're a Leaf fan, u can't be all that upset here. More fights are good in any way, shape or form. Hollweg will be the guy to drop the gloves with the heavies if the Leafs are being pushed around. Hell, u might even grow to like 'em a little because of it.

You don't know how true yet utterly sad of a statement that is, have you ever actually seen Hollweg fight, I am a die hard Rangers fan and would yell at the tv Ryan keep them on, he can not take on the beasts from the east. I can not even think of one fighter I would even give him a 50/50 chance against. We will miss his energy bit not his dumb penalties and that is what got him in the dog house.

The only one I could think of is Mark Bell, but because their teammates now I guess that wont happen

I believe this is a decent pick up for the leafs. He'll be a legitamite pest in the likes of Ruutu but not as skilled. You got to remember Hollweg is only 25yrs old. Although he didn't have a great year last season he still has tons of potential ahead of him.

Why give up a draft pick for Ryan frigging Hollweg when you can simply sign a player like Jesse Boulerice to a two-way contract without it really having to cost you anything?

That's the million dollar question, my friend.

Who knows, Fletcher has been doing unorthodox moves lately with over paying a player and now this pick up for the leafs. Though this is good pick up imo, like what they said earlier hopefully they plan to also get a pure heavyweight.

I must say that Hollweg was an exciting player to have on the rangers especially before orr came along. everytime he was on the ice he hit someone hard. but last year after he was put on the "hit to hurt" list he was not nearly as effective. he has a good team first attitude and hes one of the best hitters in the game, but he takes terrible penalties at really crucial times and in the end he just doesnt have the talent to play at the nhl level. his hitting is the only thing keeping him in the league and he has a huge target on his back from every referee. if i was a maple leaf fan i would be happy to have a big hitter on the team, but also wary of his dumb penalties and his immense lack of skill. So long Ryan, I will miss your physical play but it was certainly time to move on, especially with voros having been brought in.

This signing is cute and all, but the Leafs are still devoid of a heavyweight.

Did that really sound that crazy? Maybe we are forgetting what team he's going to here. These are the Maple Leafs. ANY signing of ANY player that has had ANY shades of toughness in their past has got to be some sort of plus. Unless they want more players like Antropov and Ponikarovsky instead, I don't know.

Hollweg can actually jump on the ice and skate around a lil, maybe hit some people, and give this whole "playing hockey" thing a shot. I don't think Boulerice can be trusted for more than :55 seconds in any game. But Boulerice would be a good pick up strictly for the fighting thing on the Leafs. Or any other HW would pretty much make the Leafs very respectable all of a sudden.

i think its a pretty goog pick up because in the EAST conf. Montreal/Ottawa and Toronto have pretty much the same type of fighters...Light/Middleweight...now there a chance that we could much fights between these teams this year.
they could be a chance two see maybe a game with two fights...that was pretty rare last year.

Mtl:Komisarek/Begin/Bouillon/Kosto/G.Stewart(? i hope).
Ott:/Smith/Fisher/Ruutu/Bass/Neil (not same category of those players but i could see a few fights between him and those guys.
Tor:Mayers/Newbury/Finger/Bell and now Hollweg...
the guy i really it would be a good pick up by Tor or any team of the East conf is Barch. It would be a great add. to that list.

With Mtl, you forgot BGL, though I don't know who he'll fight in the division, Neil or Peters maybe?

The most impressive thing about Hollweg is his stache growing skills. Look it up on google, that is a mean streak going across his upper lip. Looks like a damn caterpillar.

Hollweg has a tendency to hit guys from behind. Hopefully Toronto finds someone to help protect him.

Newbury got knocked out cold by Ronald Petrovicky! Idt Newbury is your answer.
