He's had a .500 fighting career since being up, hopefully he can improve on that. Not very consistent though, beats Eager, Lappy, Prust, Dorsett, Boll, Voros, but then goes and loses to Bradley, Crombeen, Sutherby, McLeod, etc.

He's a willing fighter, can play the PK, and is defensively responsible. Not a bad trade for Toronto.

Brown honestly reminds me of Lappy alot. He's a good defensive player, who can hit and who fights although it is horrible, he still sticks up for his teammates. I am liking the make-up of Toronto, but they need absolutely need to address their top-6

their playing it smart IMO..you gotta build from the bottom up and that's what their doing. Give them 2 years and they'll be a fun team to watch not only toughness wise but they'll add more guys to score

I was starting to think Toronto might be able to sneak in the playoff's next year maybe an 8 seed or worse not making and being out in 10-11 but if Brown's gonna be on a 3rd line then thank you Mr. Burke from the Boston Bruins who will be selecting poss top 5 next year

Who said Brown was going to be on the third line? This trade wont have any effect on whether or not the Leafs make the playoffs.

How could this trade possibly hurt them?

I agree. I'm a bigger fan of Burke Hockey than any actual NHL team, and will enjoy watching Toronto regain it's glory in the next few seasons.

Seriously? That's not a way to build a team at all. 12 role players, 3 defensemen, and junk goaltending can't do a thing for that team - if this year is any evidence. Hell, the finals even proved that you don't even need a big time goalie, just a hot one, so that's a problem avoided.. I guess? I'm actually amazed that they kept Phaneuf and Schenn during the draft, because building from a solid defense is indeed a way to get better. We'll have to see if those guys stick around through Thursday though. Post lock-out winners are being built through the draft, and Toronto's playing that game quite poorly. If you really think that what Burke is doing is even remotely called "team-building", please revisit last season's catastrophic results.

Are they entertaining? Absolutely. Can they be a winning team based on their moves so far? No way in hell. I'll give you the two years though... If they make the playoffs by then, I'll eat my words, but I'm honestly not too worried about it.

Yes, building from the net out is a terrible way to build a team...

The fact that you will give them two years demonstrates my point. When Burke rebuilds, one of the first issues he seems to address is the core motivation of the club. Prima donnas are usually moved/not signed, and the roster gains grit, determination, and eventually pride in it's (although limited) success. A GM can find this trait in any level player, so why not begin with what you can afford? Personally, I think that's the best foundation for any club at any level. I would offer the Capitals as an example. That team has so many ingredients in which they excel, yet I believe are missing this one key element that is the difference between great regular season teams, and championship franchises.

So stop fighting it Viper, and get on board. They're gonna be fun to watch all the way back to the top.

What do you consider the top, and how long has it been since Toronto was even close to there?

Is Burke converting Brown to a goalie?

He has brought in four goalies over the past year, obviously nobody knows if any of them will develop in #1 goalies but its certainly an improvement over what they had before Burke got there and its.

It's pretty funny that people are talking like it should be considered a failure if Burke hasn't cleaned up JFJ's mess in two years when Burke himself said it would probably take five years.
