Leafs Acquire Mike Brown From Anaheim

Brian Burke, president and general manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs, announced Saturday the acquisition of forward Mike Brown from the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for Toronto’s fifth round draft pick in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft. Anaheim used the pick, 122nd overall, to select Chris Wagner from the South Shore Kings of the Eastern Junior Hockey League.

Brown, 25, played 75 games with the Ducks during the 2009-10 season, collecting seven points (6 goals, 1 assist) and 106 penalty minutes. In 142 career NHL games with Anaheim and Vancouver, the native of Northbrook, Illinois has registered nine goals and three assists for 12 points with 306 penalty minutes. Brown was originally selected by the Canucks in the fifth round, 159th overall, at the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.

The 6-0, 210-pound forward appeared in 189 career games in the American Hockey League with the Manitoba Moose from 2005 to 2008. He collected 31 points (20 goals, 11 assists) with 534 penalty minutes.

Prior to his professional career, Brown attended the University of Michigan for two years from 2003 to 2005 and accumulated 11 goals, 10 assists, 21 points and 146 penalty minutes in 77 games.

Another player perfect for Burke's mold.

What happened to Brown? A couple of years ago he was an exciting fighter but now he is boring and has lost his touch.

Nice job by Burke. IMO it's always a good move to trade a fifth rounder for a roster player.

Not bad. The Leafs forwards were way too soft last season so this should help. Brown is nothing special but its still an improvement.

Toronto certainly got a bit more entertaining today by drafting Brad Ross and trading for Brown, and Burke is probably not done adding toughness yet.

Ahhh, so this must be the culmination of all the wheeling and deeling, and why Burke bothered showing up for the first two rounds of the draft.

I don't hate it. I do hope Burke still goes after someone in free agency though

I hope Brown doesn't take Rosehill's spot. I would ever prefer Ondrus up over Brown (although I'm not really familar with Brown's skill yet).

Anyways... toughness added gets the "ok" with me.

I always thought Brown was a terrible fighter but he can play a 3rd or 4th line role.

Brown's a fairly good hitter and will drop the mits when confronted. But Anaheim should still be fine, they'll probably have a 4th line of George Parros - Kyle Chipchura - Troy Bodie.

No, he's always been a guy that flails for 5 seconds and then goes for a world record bear hug.
Horrible fighter.
All show, no go.
