Leafs Acquire Brad May

Brian Burke, president and general manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs, announced Wednesday that the hockey club has acquired forward Brad May from the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for a conditional sixth round draft pick in 2010.

“Brad will provide character, toughness, and he is a proven winner,” said Burke. “We look forward to the veteran leadership that he will give our team.”

May, 37, was a member of the 2007 Stanley Cup champion Anaheim Ducks. This season he has played in 20 games for Anaheim collecting five assists with 28 penalty minutes and has registered a plus five (+5 ) rating.

In 963 career NHL games with Buffalo, Vancouver, Phoenix, Colorado and Anaheim, May has recorded 285 points on 126 goals and 159 assists, along with 2,121 penalty minutes.

Sweet, I always like Brad May. He's a hometown boy too.
Probably gonna replace Kulemin or something on the 3rd line.

I'll be damned.. I seriously thought they would go after a young up and coming HW.

If May is supposed to be the solution to the HW question at all?

Maybe, but I doubt it. He's gonna replace Deveuax as the light heavy/2nd guy.
I expect a heavy in the off season though.

Not what they needed but better than Deveaux.

No but he can do a decent job for the year until the Leafs can sign somebody this summer.

Sounds reasonable to me.

Mays tough and a pretty entertaining fighter but he is in the twilight of his career and I would be suprised to see him step up and be the hw on a nightly basis. Just cant see him fighting Laraque, Brashear, Godard, Orr etc....

How much is left in the tank of the 38 year old, worn out shoulders, Brad May?

He hasn't played anything close to a full season in the past 5 or so years.

Must just be a Burke and May friend deal or something. Because bringing him into fight battles against other heavies in the division and conference makes no sense.

Well even if he never plays a game for the Leafs Burke probably thinks he is a good guy to have in the locker room around the young players.

Thats probably right and to me it seems like there will be a young guy or perhaps Deveaux that May will help groom.......
