Laraque, Roenick await trades

CALGARY (CP) - Georges Laraque leaned in real close and wore a smile about as wide as the Grand Canyon.

Jeremy Roenick was holding court in the Phoenix Coyotes dressing room and he was certainly not holding back. "I would obviously love to be traded to a Stanley Cup contender, to a team in the playoffs," Roenick said after the morning skate on Monday. "To get that feeling again (after) being out of the playoffs here and being driven down to the basement like I have.

"(I've been) swept through the mud, so to say."

Clearly, his first season in Phoenix has not gone exactly as planned.

It's a reality for several Coyotes as they wait to see where they'll be playing after Tuesday's trade deadline.



Roenick and Laraque are the most likely to go although coach Wayne Gretzky indicated Monday that Owen Nolan, Yanic Perreault and Curtis Joseph could also be moved.

I'm confused as it pertains to Roenick. I seem to recall him going on and on in the off-season before he got his deal about how last year in LA was a nightmare. I remember him saying he was re-dedicating himself to hockey this year and he swore that things would be different. Now he can't wait to skip town because he has played like a piece of sh*t again? I hope other teams realize what he is worth these days (nothing) and they let him rot in the desert.

Do you think he should say I want to go to a last place team? Of course he wants to got to a contender almost 100% of the players do. Thats why they play hockey.

I still say Laraque sits the rest of the year in the Phoenix box. He seems to think this is a joke. He needs to talk to the teams coach before he ok's a trade. Hey Georges, your not the scoring leader.

So you think it's cool that he signed with Phoenix after lying about his commitment and then floated through 3 quarters of the season and now wants to go to a contender?
