Kopecky to Florida for Draft Pick
Monday, 06.27.2011 / 5:26 PM / News
By Chicago Blackhawks The Chicago Blackhawks have acquired a seventh round draft pick in either the 2012 or 2013 National Hockey League Entry Draft in exchange for right wing Tomas Kopecky. The Blackhawks will receive Florida’s seventh round pick in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft, which is presently conditional to the Nashville Predators. If that pick is not available, Florida will transfer their own seventh round selection in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft. Kopecky, 29, spent two seasons with the Blackhawks collecting 63 points (25G, 38A) and 88 penalty minutes in 155 regular-season games and six points (4G, 2A) in 18 playoff contests.

Kopecky made $1.2M last year.
For Ben Smith and Bickell, we are paying $1.3M. Clearing cap room is still what the Hawks would like to do, but they need to clear some space at forward for Smith and Bickell, and possibly Morin and Beach.

Who trades a draft pick (even a 7th rounder) for the negotiating rights of an average player??
