Kings Sign Raitis Ivanans

LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles Kings have signed unrestricted free agent forward Raitis Ivanans to a one-year contact, Kings President/General Manager Dean Lombardi announced.

Ivanans, 27, had zero points and nine penalty minutes in four regular season games with Montreal this past season after he made his NHL debut at Toronto on October 8. In addition, he this past season had two points – both goals -- and 120 penalty minutes in 43 games with Hamilton of the American Hockey League (AHL).

A 6-4, 263-pound native of Riga, Latvia, Ivanans has also played with Milwaukee and Hershey of the AHL; Baton Rouge, Toledo and Pensacola of the ECHL, Rockford, New Haven and Flint of the United Hockey League; and Tulsa and Macon of the Central Hockey League since turning pro during the 1997-98 season.

I hope this isn't strictly an AHL move.

Kings sign LW Ivanans

LOS ANGELES (Ticker) - Hoping to get the chance to prove he is the toughest Latvian to play in the NHL, Raitis Ivanans on Thursday signed a one-year contract with the Los Angeles Kings. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Signed as an undrafted free agent by Montreal in July 2004, Ivanans made his NHL debut with the Canadiens last season, collecting nine penalty minutes in four games. He spent the majority of the campaign with Hamilton of the American Hockey League, registering two goals and 120 penalty minutes in 43 contests.

A native of Riga, Latvia, the 27-year-old Ivanans had recorded at least 146 penalty minutes - including a career-high 270 in 2000-01 - each of the previous six seasons, which saw him play in the AHL, ECHL and the United and Central Hockey Leagues.

good signing by the Kings. He'll probably just play in the minors but hopefully he gets called up. Maybe this is a signing because of the Flinn injury last year. Anyone know if Flinn's career is done?

Imagine Parros on your 4th line, and then you have Ivanans as you 3rd string d-man, wow good heavy weights on that team if he plays!

Ivanans isn't a defenseman.

September 18th Kings/Ducks preseason game will be fun...

Ivanans/Parros/Scott Thornton/Avery vs Fedoruk/Shawn Thornton/Moen/Konopka/Shane O'Brien
