Kings Sign Ivanans to Two-Year Extension

LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles Kings and left wing Raitis Ivanans have agreed to terms on a two-year contract extension, it was announced Tuesday by Kings President/General Manager Dean Lombardi.

Ivanans, 29, has been part of the Kings organization since the club signed him as an unrestricted free agent on July 13, 2006. He has played in 113 career regular season games over three NHL seasons with the Kings and Montreal, recording 12 points (6-6=12) and 229 penalty minutes. This season, he has four points (2-2=4) and 80 penalty minutes in 43 games with the Kings.

Ivanans, a 6-3, 263-pound native of Riga, Latvia, last season set career highs for goals (4), assists (4), points (8) and games played (66) while leading the Kings and finishing eighth in the NHL with 140 penalty minutes. He also finished third on the Kings with a career-high 101 hits.

In 2005-06, Ivanans made his NHL debut with Montreal, totaling zero points and nine penalty minutes in four games.

Ivanans gets around the ice rather well for an enforcer. Playing in 43 of 51 games for the Kings is a great sign-missing 7 due to injury. Even a team that is struggling like LA still recognize the need for an enforcer. King fight fans should be happy about this.

Good signing. And it was two years not just one which is a positive too. I wonder if having Burke's Ducks as a divisional rival factored into the equation at all (even with the schedule changes coming up)

Great move by the Kings. Ivanans is a good guy to have watching over your team.

Why isn't he stronger at 263lbs (as listed at Yahoo)?

He's got 20lbs on Laraque, 30lbs on Parros, but seems not to be as strong as that weight suggests... he should be utterly utterly ragdolling smaller guys with that size.

His balance isn't great and it seems to me that he isn't fond of "ragdolling" his opponents. He does wrestle a bit, though.

Seems like something he *could* improve on to be a more effective fighter.

I like him, and see further potential if he can work on the balance. I saw a pre-season training photo of him... he's fricken huge. It's 263lb of hard-ass. He MUST be strong.

Great news by the kings....

He is strong... just needs more experience.. Balance can be an issue at times.. he has a heart like a lion...

Where the Hell is kamazkiskov. Must be out celebrating that his fellow his country man got signed for two more years. Way to go Ivanans. One Powerful mother hubbard second to Laraque in strength. Needs to and is improving with the fists.

Good for Raitis! Hopefully he'll become more active with the gloves off even with that job security.

I am not far from information, glad about Raitis, but I have to work and not have so many time to spend at that site, but thanks for remembering rondo
