Kings Sign David Meckler to Multi-Year Contract

LOS ANGELES - The Los Angeles Kings have agreed to terms on a three-year entry-level contract with forward David Meckler, Kings President/General Manager Dean Lombardi announced today.

Meckler, 21, was the club's fifth-round selection (134th overall) in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft. He recently finished his first season of professional hockey with the Manchester Monarchs of the American Hockey League (AHL). He recorded 36 points (23-13=36) and 24 penalty minutes in 76 regular season games with the Monarchs, and then added another two points (1-1=2) and two penalty minutes in four postseason games with that club. Meckler's 23 goals tied for fourth on the Monarchs and his 36 points ranked seventh best on the squad. He also tied for the team lead with two short-handed goals last season.

Meckler, a 6-0, 184-pound native of Highland Park, Illinois, played with the London Knights of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) during the 2006-07 season. In 67 regular season games with the Knights that year, he totaled 73 points (38-35=73) and 53 penalty minutes. His 73 points ranked fifth on the Knights and his 38 goals ranked fourth on the club. Meckler's 15 goals and 22 points (15-7=22) in 16 postseason games helped push the Knights to the OHL's Western Conference Finals, and his 15 goals paced the Knights during the 2007 postseason.

Meckler played with Yale University (NCAA) during the 2005-06 season. He registered 10 points (7-3=10) and 28 penalty minutes in 31 games with the Bulldogs that year, and he scored the game-winning goal to end the longest collegiate men's ice hockey game in NCAA history. He netted the game-winner in the fifth overtime to give Yale the victory over Union College in the first round of the 2006 Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Hockey League (ECACHL) playoffs on March 4, 2006.
