Kings Send Brad Stuart to Detroit

The Los Angeles Kings have acquired a second-round draft selection in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft and a fourth-round selection in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft from the Detroit Red Wings in exchange for defenseman Brad Stuart, Kings President/General Manager Dean Lombardi announced Tuesday.

Stuart, 28, played in 63 games with the Kings this season and had 21 points (5-16=21) and 67 penalty minutes. The 6-2, 213-pound native of Rocky Mountain House, Alberta, has played in 570 career regular season NHL games with the Kings, Calgary Flames, Boston Bruins and San Jose Sharks, and has recorded 227 points (58-169=227) and 370 penalty minutes.

We're still in need of some second line scoriing.

We have so many young D that is so good. Wings need forwards bad. They should of went after Hossa. Samuelsson and Franzen aren't 1st and 2nd line players. They don't have cup written on them.

Not with the current issues and injuries they've having on their blue line. This is pretty much a must-have pickup for the Wings, especially with Blake not going anywhere. Once Rafalski, Lidstrom, and Chelios come back healthy, that should make for a pretty potent defense corps, offensively.

And Stuart finds himself on his 5th team in 3 years - my how the promising have fallen. Hard to believe this guy was once considered a sure-fire Olympian for eam Canada. And now he finds himself a rental player for the second year in a row.

This is a good move for the Wings... Stuart hasn't played up to his projected potential.

He's another solid blue liner. We have some nice dman-depth developing in the minor leagues as well-that's currently playing with Detroit. I think the need for a top 6 forward was more prominent than getting a defenseman. Samuelsson and Hudler were/are expendable.

Saw this one coming for a long time. A good move, he'll add a little physicality, and we didn't have to give anyone up. I'd like to see him stick around, but that's pretty doubtful.

The Wings could definitely use the depth on the blueline. Good pickup.

Interesting to see how he fits in with their system. Kind of flat lining on this one. I think I would have rather rode out the injuries and kept the picks.

Good move on Detroit's part. They could use a gritty veteran like Stuart. They have a ton of injuries on the blueline right now, so they do need the depth. Solid move - and I knew that Stuart would be going to Detroit. Just seems like a very good fit.
