Kings Recall Westgarth; Place Moller on IR

LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles Kings have recalled forward Kevin Westgarth from the Manchester Monarchs of the American Hockey League and have placed forward Oscar Moller on the injured reserve list (retroactive to Jan. 7), Kings President/General Manager Dean Lombardi announced Wednesday.

Westgarth, 24, has played in 37 games with Manchester this season, recording five points (1-4=5) and 104 penalty minutes. His 104 penalty minutes rank second on the Monarchs and tied for 19th in the AHL. Westgarth had 12 points (6-6=12) and 191 penalty minutes for Manchester last season. His 191 penalty minutes ranked second on Manchester and second among AHL rookies. The 6-5, 241-pounder from Amherstburg, Ontario signed with the Kings as an unrestricted free agent on March 16, 2007 and finished the 2006-07 campaign with the Monarchs, posting three points (1-2=3) and 24 penalty minutes in 14 games. Westgarth, who has not played in the NHL, will wear No. 33.

Moller, 19, has played in 30 games with the Kings this season, his first in the NHL, and has 13 points (6-7=13) and 14 penalty minutes. He suffered a fractured clavicle at the recently concluded World Junior Championships and has missed the last three Kings games with the injury. Moller was Team Sweden’s captain at the World Junior Championships and he recorded four points (1-3=4), four penalty minutes and 23 shots on goal in six tournament games as the Swedes went 5-1 and earned a silver medal for the second consecutive year. The 5-11, 180-pounder from Stockholm, Sweden was drafted by the Kings in the second round (52nd overall) in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.

Ivanans-Westgarth is probably the best 1-2 punch in the league.

Congrats to Westy, he's earned it. He's been a top AHL HW for a couple years now.

Who do the Kings have coming up in future games? Can't see them needing him against the Wings, so who's next in line?

Ivanans and Westgarth! The Kings look really tough. Detroit is in for a rough game tomorrow

please. the bullies were much tougher. and if you were boyle's size, you threw your weight around and fought, not skate around thinking you got skill

No we care, but really right now this team needs to come together. They throw big hits, but they aren't backing each other up. Last game when Drew Doughty went down from a hit. S.O. was the only player that tried to do something about. Dean Lombardi was pissed, read the thread about it ( Kings Lose Game, May Lose Doughty ). So he brings up Westgarth, not only to send a message to the league, but to the team it's self.

So about your statement, this team needs passion more than goal scoring right now.

Next two games after Detroit are Dallas and Minnesota.

HALLELUJAH!

i can only hope this means Ivanans has one foot out the door! i'm not sure if he knew Kevin was in the Kings farm system, but i'm sure he notices now. even if Westgarth doesn't see ice time, this has to open the eyes of a few players on the team. as it has already been said, this is a message for the team. Ivanans should be very concerned at this point

the timing is a bit wierd! the Dead Wings are comming into town and don't exactly have a known HW. this has to be all about the team coz logically it makes little sense.

oh yeah, no rush Moller! take your time!
