Kings Recall Clune From Ontario; Segal Claimed by Dallas

LOS ANGELES - The Los Angeles Kings have recalled forward Richard Clune from the Ontario Reign (ECHL), Kings President/General Manager Dean Lombardi announced today. In addition, the Dallas Stars have today claimed forward Brandon Segal off of waivers.

Clune, 22, has not played for the Reign this season. He has played in 41 games with the Monarchs and has 12 points (3=9=12) and a team-leading 119 penalty minutes. The 5-10, 198-pound native of Toronto has never played in the NHL. He was acquired by the Kings from Dallas on July 21, 2008, in exchange for Lauri Tukonen and he will wear No. 56.

Segal, 26, played in 25 games this season with the Kings, his first with the club, and had two points (1-1=2) and 20 penalty minutes. He also has played in 21 games with Manchester this season and had 14 points (6-8=14) and 34 penalty minutes.

Clune is an upgrade over Segal, expecially in the fighting department

Why the hell did they send him to Ontario, just to call him up??

He went AHL to ECHL to NHL. Does that even make sense???

Probably because Ontario is close to LA. Manchester is in Springfield tomorrow so they probably wanted him close to home as the Kings play tonight.

i think they were waiting to see what happened with segal and had a potential trade lined up, so they wanted clune closer in the event they needed him. who knows, its very odd but either way clune finalllllllllly gets the call. he made the team out of camp before getting injured.

Yeah, it's about two hours east of LA.

So I'm guessing Segal is going to be in Dallas for the time being?

Sucks in a way, I liked what segal brought to the table. Could have at least let him stay in Manchester let alone go to division rival. Oh well, the seagull migrates east, good luck to ya and hope they play you. Big upside to Clune suiting up as I have enjoyed watching him the last two years in preseason other than the beating he took from some guy on Pheonix but he shows up and plays hard. Hope its for more then the 2 games before break.

Clune throws those checks every game. Maybe will see Ivanans have to fight more. Should had Clune up all year throwing checks and what Clune cant handle Ivanans would do the rest

Lot more majors for Ivanans if Clune played all year!!!

You know it Scott!!!

It took almost all damn year, but he is finally where he is suppose to be! Looks like he has a new home on the third line as well. This guy skates hard, checks, draws penalties, and drops the gloves... Whats not to love!!!

He had a good game last night (EVEN THOUGH THE KINGS LOST) and I can't wait to see him tomorrow against the avs. There should be someone on the avs willing to drop them with him tomorrow..

Lombardi and Murray wants his type of play in Kings' games. We were missing that and you can't expect Simmond to do it all on his own....

Here is a quote from Coach Murray on Clune. What he brings and what they expect. (read between the lines)..

Quote:
Question: What would be the contrast with Segal and Clune?

MURRAY: “There is a little bit of a difference in the players. Both play with a pretty good tempo to their games. They get around the ice very well. They skate, they handle the puck, they make plays, they understand the system and they have a pretty good head on their shoulders on that side of it. Clune can push it a little bit more on the reckless-abandon side of it than Segal does. That’s probably the biggest difference right now. I think the upside for Clune, if he gets an opportunity and handles it the right way, I see where maybe he can move himself up into a third-line style of a player. Be responsible, check. That’s certainly down the road, but that would be an opportunity for him and that would be his goal, I would think, for the future. Clune is a highly competitive guy, maybe on the extreme side, and that would be the difference with him.”

YES!!!!

I think it wasn't Segal that beat the Yotes.. It's the Yotes Lacking the ability to score Goals! That 0-0 to Overtime $hit won't last forever..
