Kings Recall Andrew Bodnarchuk; Place Matt Greene on IR

LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles Kings have recalled defenseman Andrew Bodnarchuk from the Manchester Monarchs of the American Hockey League and have placed defenseman Matt Greene on the injured reserve list (retroactive to January 19), Kings President/General Manager Dean Lombardi announced today.

Bodnarchuk participated in training camp with the Kings before he was assigned to Manchester on January 18 when the Kings officially set their player roster for the start of this season. The 5-11, 190-pound native of Drumheller, Alberta, has played in 39 games with Manchester this season and has 12 points (3-9=12).

Bodnarchuk, who wears No. 47, has played in five NHL games (with Boston in 2009-10). He is expected to meet the Kings in Denver.

Greene has been placed on IR due to a mid-body injury. In one game with the Kings this season he has one point (an assist).

Bob McKenzie is reporting that Greene is out for the season with a back injury

I'm not a huge Green fan by any means but the guy is a rock back there on they're D.

I think the Kings will be looking to replace him there's no doubt about that.

(new article) MayorsManor sources say reports on LA Kings Matt Greene missing full season are not true

Quote:

And LA Times writer Lisa Dillman soon tweeted that GM Dean Lombardi told her Greene was “out for the year probably.”

But, is he?

Now, we’re not trying to contradict what Lombardi said, as he would know best.

However, for what it’s worth – and our sources on these types of things have been right many more times than they’ve been wrong through the years - we hear Greene isn’t likely lost for the season.

When MayorsManor asked, our sources indicated Greene was estimated to be out 6-12 weeks, depending on how he heals. Although it remains unclear at the moment if he’s having surgery.

Regarding the timetable, sure, if it’s the full 12 weeks, he’d be looking at mid-April – or a return just a few weeks before the regular season ends. Say there were still seven games remaining, that’s still significant in a 48-game season.

Also, if he returns as early as six weeks, that’s around March 2nd – and he will have missed about 17 games or less than half the season.

When we asked the team for clarification on the situation, the only thing initially relayed was - “Matt Greene was placed on IR today due to a mid-body injury. As for recovery time-frame, we plan for the worst and hope for the best.”

The Mayor was right. Bob McKenzie is now changing on what he is reporting earlier.

However long it is, this is a huge hit to the Kings with Willie Mitchell already out.

Big loss for the Kings losing Matt Greene, one of the most reliable guys in the NHL in his own zone.

Yeah, I bet our PK takes a hit this season. Good news is Willie is due back by the end of the 3 game road trip.
