Kings Place Jack Johnson on IR
LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles Kings have placed defenseman Jack Johnson on the injured reserve list with a shoulder injury, Kings President/General Manager Dean Lombardi announced today.
Johnson, 21, was injured in the first period of the Kings-San Jose Sharks game last night at STAPLES Center. He is expected to be out of action two to three months because of the injury. The 6-1, 225-pound native of Indianapolis, Indiana has appeared in 81 career NHL regular season games – all with the Kings - and has 11 career points (3-8=11) and 96 career penalty minutes. He had 11 points (3-8=11) and 76 penalty minutes in 74 regular season games with the Kings last season and Johnson began his NHL career late in the 2006-07 season with Los Angeles, recording zero points and 18 penalty minutes in five games. Johnson has two penalty minutes in two games with the Kings this season. Johnson was originally selected by Carolina in the first round (third overall) in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft. He was acquired by the Kings on Sept. 29, 2006 along with Oleg Tverdovsky for Eric Belanger and Tim Gleason. |

Kings defenseman Jack Johnson had surgery on his left shoulder at the Kerlan-Jobe Clinic in Los Angeles, a team spokesman said. Johnson suffered a partially torn labrum during the Kings' loss to San Jose on Sunday and will be sidelined until after the All-Star break. |

Another good young defenseman goes down with a long term injury. And this is a guy the Kings were counting on to carry some huge minutes on a rather weak blue line.
Hopefully he comes back strong.
