Kings Assign Oscar Moller to Swedish Junior Team; Recall Trevor Lewis
LOS ANGELES - The Los Angeles Kings have re-assigned forward Oscar Moller to the Swedish Junior National Team for participation in the 2009 IIHF World Junior Championships --which will be held Dec. 26-Jan. 5 in Ottawa -- and have recalled forward Trevor Lewis from the Manchester Monarchs of the American Hockey League, Kings President/General Manager Dean Lombardi announced today.
Moller is one of four Kings players/prospects scheduled to play in the upcoming World Junior Championships. Moller (Sweden) joins defenseman Thomas Hickey (Canada), defenseman Colten Teubert (Canada) and defenseman Viatcheslav Voynov (Russia) in the prestigious tournament. In addition, forward Andrei Loktionov has been invited to participate in Team Russia's camp for this event. Moller, 19, has played in 30 games with the Kings this season, his first in the NHL, and has 13 points (6-7=13) and 14 penalty minutes. He is also tied for the team-lead with five power play goals, which ranks first among NHL rookies. The 5-11, 180-pound native of Stockholm has previously represented Sweden at the 2008 World Juniors, where he earned a silver medal, and at the 2007 World Junior Under-18 Championships. Hickey, 19, will serve as Team Captain for Canada and is one of four players returning to Canada's team this year after earning a gold medal one year ago at the World Junior Championships. The 6-0, 191-pound native of Calgary was the Kings' first-round draft choice (fourth overall) in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft and is currently playing for Seattle (WHL), where as that team's captain he has 18 points (6-12=18), a plus-13 rating and 14 penalty minutes in 26 games. Teubert, 18, represented and was an alternate captain for Team Canada at the 2007 World Junior Under-18 Championships and earned a gold medal. He has also represented Canada at the Under-18 Ivan Hlinka Memorial tournament in 2007. The 6-4, 187-pounder from White Rock, British Columbia, was the Kings' first-round draft choice (13th overall after the Kings drafted defenseman Drew Doughty second overall) in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft and is currently playing for Regina (WHL), where as that team's assistant captain he has 22 points (8-14=22), a plus-14 rating and 72 penalty minutes in 33 games. |
