as a defense man on a lonely kings team i think quincey did pretty good putting points on the score sheet, grant it i shouldnt say smyth is useless, i prolly only said that cause as an avs fan i was dissapointed in there season last yr, so i do take back him being useless, he did pretty good considering the team he had to work with

I like Ryan Smyth, but him being the leading goal scorer is more a testament to how bad the Avs have gotten, rather than how good a player he is. For his sake, I hope me makes his way back to Edmonton, since it seems a shame how he left the Oilers in the first place.

Well, it is nice to get rid of the cap, and get a solid young defenceman, something desperately missing. I like it. Ryan Smyth is good, but paid way too much.

Smyth has a bad contract. Avs win by getting his contract off the books as they rebuild. Quincy is a bonus.

Smyth will help the Kings but they would have been better off throwing that money at Havlat or Gaborik.

I like this deal for both teams - Smyth is getting a lot of flak in this thread, but fans have to look beyond the stats for a minute and think about the other intangibles he can bring to a hockey team - especially a young one that could use his leadership and experience in LA. Its true, the guy busts his ass every night and never takes a shift off - and besides willing to block a puck with his face to save a goal, he can still pot 20+ goals a season. Yeah, its a hefty salary, but if a team has room to squeeze it in, he can still be a very dependable asset both on and off the ice.

Personally, I hate the guy - but he could still be part of my hockey team anyday.

Losing Quincey I'm sure stings, but the Kings are loaded with prospects and good young players on the blue line; they can spare him, plus a spare part in Preissing, and the Avs rebuilding movement continues in the quest to dump some salary and get younger. Good trade for both imo.

Are you crazy? If we had a "no thanks" on this site, you would get one from me! They offed what they wanted to give to those players and dean wasn't going to offer anything else. The only free agent they tried big time for was Hossa, it didn't work out so Dean Didn't alter the plan by much.

I think Smyth is going to fit in real well with the kings, we don't need a star, we need grit and heart. Smyth will open up the ice for our skill players. Hell he was the player that seem to give us the most fits last season.

I am starting to think Lombardi knows what the hell he is doing. We didn't need a player like your name (McDonald), who might have skill but is a soft pus$Y. We needed a player like Smyth and if anyone gets pissed at him infornt of the net, they will have to answer to Ivanans or Westgarth.

I hate seeing Quincy go, but I still think this team is on the right track.

I disagree. Even though I think Kopitar is pretty overrated he would do well with a skilled winger like Havlat. Havlats contract with Minnesota was pretty reasonable. Kings should have matched. For every game where Smyth scores a powerplay deflection goal there will be 3 games where he is invisible. Enjoy.

i think the trade is pretty even, immediate impact for the Kings, and future impact for the Avs, if all falls into place and they can avoid the injury bug, they may actually be really good future team.
You have good points, my comment was MOSTLY in jest.

He has always had an awkwardness to him that has pissed me off, however his heart and determination are not to be questioned, imo.

6.5 mil is just to much for the guy, thats all!

WOW, your hate towards the kings blinds you from thinking correctly. It would be a different story if Kopitar went to the ducks. Get over it, I never take any of your post seriously, because if it's not in the interest of the ducks, it must be horrible.

Too bad most of the duck fans are not like bobberino, who is a stand up guy.

I know, I hate the ducks, but I don't call Ryan or Getzlaf overrated. That pissed me off.

I love it when the two teams play each other, it's always exciting! It's ok to hate the other team, I don't wish anything bad to the other side, I think it's good for the game. But I wouldn't go way out in left field and start calling Hiller and overrated goalie, especially when I have a record of not rooting for the ducks.

I appreciate your post, might have to add you under the bobberino list of good duck fans lol

I think this was a pretty good trade for both teams. The Avalanche need to continue rebuilding, and keeping an overpaid, aging Ryan Smyth on the roster isn't going to help them much long-term. So they got a guy with some good upside on the blueline back in Quincey, and Preissing to help fill in some holes.

The Kings look like they're getting close to being a good young team. LA could afford to part with those defensive assets with everyone else they've got back there to acquire some help for their offense and some veteran leadership in Smyth. The guy should fit in well with some of their young skill players up front, hopefully finding a way to convert on some chances in close that they will create for him.
