Smyth is a good, gritty veteran leader for LA, but his salary is, as jkidd already said, a gross overpayment. Not exactly the sort of player LA needed from what I could gather, but he won't hurt them either IMO. Not too familiar with Quincey so can't say whether or not anyone wins in this one.

Smyth may not have the tools to be a game breaker anymore, and is fragile at this point of his career, but the fact is, when the guy is healthy, he never takes a shift off and plays with passion. Some of the free agents that have been signed should take even have half a page from this guy's playbook, they may be more liked afterwards.

i think the trade is pretty even, immediate impact for the Kings, and future impact for the Avs, if all falls into place and they can avoid the injury bug, they may actually be really good future team.

I do not like seeing us give away Quincy, couldn't we of tried to ship them Harrold? Anyways, we need a winger and say what you want about smith, he is hard nose gritty player that drives defense crazy.

I guess it's safe to say Johnson is going to stay now?

Smyth is awesome but watch out for the Avs in a couple years... there just going to get better and better if they play there cards correctly.

a bit shock to me when Laperriere and Smyth leaves Avs(my favourite team).
But OK.
Good trade for both.

Looks like it. Can't see them moving him now.

Oh yeah, the Avalanche were just poised for a Cup run if only they could have signed a couple free agents and kept Ryan Smyth. Now they're gonna miss the playoffs!

Think it's time you looked up rebuilding in the dictionary. See also: Maple Leafs, Toronto.

Smyth is a worthless bastard?

Watch hockey much? Obviously not.

The guy had 26 goals on a BRUTAL team last year, which was only one less than Hejduk (the leader) in 5 less games - he was tied for the team lead in points - he has over 300 career goals and over 650 career points... but more importanty, this guy DEFINES THE WORD INTANGIBLES... He never quits, and he'll put the puck in with his nose lying on his face if he has to...

Sorry dude... the vast majority of the hockey world disagrees with you.

Good character? Have you met Boots? He's not the only criminal NHL owner... What has this league become...

I'm sorry if being the Avs leading scorer last year puts him as "useless" in your mind...

I'm not really sure what else you want from the guy???

He's a major leader on/off the ice and the team's leading scorer???? Should he serve popcorn too?

I have no problem with you saying the guy is overpaid if that is your point, but please have some respect and stop referring to the guy as useless... he's fought more battles and scored more points than 95% of the guys in the NHL right now, and continued to lead his team in scoring and so many intangible areas last year...

BTW - Quincey had 4 goals last year... he's not exactly Ray Bourque.
