Ken Klee Sent to Devils

The Toronto Maple Leafs have traded defenceman Ken Klee to the New Jersey Devils on Wednesday according to John Ferguson, vice-president and general manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs. In exchange, the Maple Leafs received forward Aleksander Suglobov (pronounced suh-GLOH-bahf) from the Devils.

Suglobov, 24, was New Jersey’s third choice, 56th overall in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft. He currently leads all Albany River Rats of the American Hockey League in goals (25), assists (23), points (48) and plus/minus (+4) in 51 games in 2005-06. He played on the Planet/USA team in the 2006 AHL All-Star Game in Winnipeg on February 1. He scored on December 17 at Carolina in his lone game with the Devils in 2005-06. Last season with Albany, he notched 25 goals and 21 assists in 72 games. He missed the majority of the 2003-04 season recovering from a wrist injury suffered in a game against the Oilers on January 5, 2004.

In 56 games this season with the Maple Leafs, Klee, 34, recorded three goals and 12 assists while picking up 66 penalty minutes. His average ice-time of 20:02 ranked third on the Maple Leafs this season. In 122 career regular season games with Toronto he collected seven goals and 37 assists for 44 points since his arrival to the Leafs as an unrestricted free agent on September 27, 2003.

Yeah I just saw it on TSN and looks like we're getting prospect Alexander Suglobov in return. Devil's fans what can you tell us about this guy?

Sad to see Klee go being Toronto's 3rd best defenceman. Either Richardson is taking his spot on the roster or Toronto has something up their sleeves in another deal for a D-man.

Trading for prospects and Luke Richardson so far makes me think Torotno isn't going big this trading deadline.

Suglobov is supposed to have a pretty good upside from what I've head. He hasn't done much the couple times I've seen him play though. Good defensive pick up for the Devils.

Suglobov was the most talented and skilled guy when he played with Albany according to me.
What were the Devils thinking?!

I love this one.

Klee was great in the old NHL...in this new game, not so much. Nice prospect for the Leafs to pick up.

But now I'm confused, are the Leafs buyers or sellers?

seems like the Leafs are acquiring some young guys and some old guys at once... maybe they want Richardson to show the rest of the defensive corps how to protect their own net??

Me too.
I guess the timing threw us,but Fergie wanted Luke to fill Klee's spot I guess.
Maybe he wants LR for next near in a leadership capacity..who knows.
I just hope it's sell sell sell... Thats more like it Fergie

As of right now I like this a lot. Acquired a prospect, and dumped salary

Richardson is actually getting paid more than Klee so it's a salary wash.

This is a bit of a surprise considering Klee was one of their better d-men this year. That being said, I'd rather have Richardson than Klee in that he provides a physical element, and their salaries were virtually identical. Sounds like they got a pretty decent prospect in this Suglobov kid as well. Course I would've loved to see the Leafs get another player with "Sug" in his name, but it's not like that was gonna happen. Looks like the Leafs won't really be buying or selling at the deadline.

No complaints here! We deal decent d-man for a good prospect.

this makes me think the Devils are bracing for another trade.

their d corps now:
Albelin
Martin
Hale
Matvichuk
Klee
Rafalski
Brown
White

what the hell is going on there?
there HAS to be another trade brewing.
