I predicted 4, he got 5. Any other time even in the new NHL I think he would have gotten 1, maybe 2. I doubt there will be any retaliation when he comes back.

Unfortunate. More bad publicity for hockey...

Of course a stick infraction should be penalized harder, but that was not my point.
What i meant was...did they really take into account that Hollweg didnt suffer any serious injury from the swing.
25 games just seems a bit harsh to me when the "victim" of the attack came out with just a little nosebleed.
Attempt to injure and to actually injure should be held apart, in the Tootoo case they actually handed out the penalty due to the damage done.
Simon was suspended for the intention not the outcome.

I could see a game maybe two, but not 5. don't charge in a guy and you won't get knocked out.

I'm not seeing this one. 5 games seems like too many. I dunno...3 maybe...In my honest opinion what Tootoo did seemed like a natural reaction and if you're coming at someone like that you should expect that sort of thing. How bad was he hurt anyway ?

I predict that they'll unleash Barch on him and that it'll be a spirited draw.

I also wouldn't mind a cheap shot by Dallas, that way some brawling might occur.

I can't believe all these suspensions...I'll have to wait to see the footage myself before i make a decision of my own about what i think is fair, but 5 games seems pretty hefty for something like this. I'll check it out though and maybe my mind will change.

Perhaps it is a bit much for something that I always saw as a freak accident; not often a gloved punch can do that kind of damage, like Bertuzzi's shot on Moore did. But given the league's concern with head injuries and the lack of respect among players, and the bad press leftover from the Simon suspension, this comes as no surprise to me.

Personally, I won't miss Tootoo running around with that huge visor of his, not one bit.

Seems like too much to me, but it can be argued to be fair. CC did say that the "injury was a factor" in the length of the suspension. So the message is, if you take a penalty and someone gets seriously injured because of it, you get disciplined a little more. I can live with that. When your 4 minute roughing minor knocks someone out cold, you have to pay a small price. If he doesn't get KOd, this is 1 game or probably nothing at all.

I think it shoulda been more like 3 games, but with all the media hype its been getting im actually kinda surprised it wasnt more than 5.

On another note, did Modano even get a penatly for the chop to Tootoo's back?

Still on the fence. At first I truly felt like it didn't deserve a suspension. I guess the Star's fan is glad for the suspension, but the hockeyfights fan is not. This sets a pretty wide ranging precadent that Buttman can cite in the future. Not good from that respect.

The Modano thing is pointless. This has nothing to do with him or with the slash. How many slashes have you seen go uncalled in this league? And does anyone really think Modano is going to fight Tutu? Come on. Kariya going to go with Morrow maybe the next time if the exact roles were reversed? Nope.
