Jordin Tootoo Suspended Five Games
TORONTO/NEW YORK - Nashville Predators forward Jordin Tootoo has been suspended for five games, without pay, for striking Dallas Stars defenseman Stephane Robidas during Game #1074 at Nashville, March 17, the National Hockey League announced today.
Under the Collective Bargaining Agreement, and based on his annual average salary, Tootoo will forfeit $16,032.80. The money goes to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund. The incident occurred at 16:21 of the third period. Tootoo was assessed a double minor penalty for roughing for his action. "In reviewing this incident, Stephane Robidas appeared to be initiating a confrontation by approaching Jordin Tootoo," said NHL Senior Executive Vice President and Director of Hockey Operations Colin Campbell. "While a player is entitled to defend himself, Mr. Tootoo's forceful blow to Robidas' head was an overly aggressive and inappropriate response. The fact that Mr. Tootoo's actions resulted in an injury to his opponent also was a factor in this decision." Tootoo will miss Nashville games March 21 at Vancouver, March 22 at Calgary, March 24 at Edmonton, March 27 vs. Edmonton and March 29 vs. Detroit.

Seems like a bit much, but a suspension was definately in order here. There is no excuse for a player to be reeling back and delivering a gloves on punch like that. If a guy wants to throw with that kind of intent you need to shed the Bauer's first.

I almost expected more from Colin Campbell, because of Simon and all the other craziness...
I like Tootoo's game and the way he plays...This is a bit too much...oh well

How about Modanos slash at Tootoo after the blow? If that was INSERT RANDOM FOURTH LINER he would have got at least a penalty or a suspension for that.

There's a big difference. I'm no fan of Brashear but he gave a little shot to ward. Tootoo friggin "cold cocked" Robidas. No matter how anybody is going to view this you can't just punch a guy, knock him out and not expect a suspension. Unless of course it's a fair fight and both guys have removed their gloves and a guy gets KO. IMO the suspension was fair 3-5 games is to be expected here.

Absolutely not, I don't care if you swing your stick at someone and miss them completely, a stick infraction is a completely different animal than any other penalty wether it be a fight, a gloved punch, elbowing, boarding etc etc. There will always be a stiffer penalty for stick swinging.
