Jody Shelley Suspended Two Games for Punch

TORONTO – Philadelphia Flyers forward Jody Shelley has been suspended for two games and will forfeit $26,829.27 in salary for a punch to the head of Vancouver Canucks defenseman Andrew Alberts during a scrum in NHL game #544, on December 28, the National Hockey League announced today.

Shelley, who was suspended for two games on December 13, 2010, is considered a repeat offender under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Accordingly, he forfeits his salary based on the number of games in the season (82), rather than the number of days (186). The money goes to the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund.

The incident occurred at 12:29 of the third period. Shelley was assessed a match penalty.

Shelley will miss games on Dec. 30 at Los Angeles and Dec. 31 at Anaheim. He is eligible to return Jan. 2 at Detroit.

What a ****ing joke. The NHL is walking a fine line because they suspend a certain player for something that just happened and that guy was not suspended. **** Campbell and **** Bettman. They both need to go right now or the NHL is gonna lose a lot of fans.

Huh... someone will have to explain to me the difference between Milan Lucic's punch in a scrum and Jody Shelleys'.

Is it because Alberts apparently has a glass jaw and didn't get up right away, and Meyer didn't go down?

Or because it's Jody Shelley, a 4th line goon?

Just shows the biased the league is to fighters....and it's a shame cause it seems like they are trying to snuff Shelley out of the NHL. Somehow this makes me dislike Alberts, can anyone take a ****ing punch anymore?!?! Early in the year Rypien suckered Staubitz with an uppercut and he took the punch like a man, and even said it was his fault for not being ready in a scrum. Didn't Orr do something like this too?

So in all when you are in a scrum of any kind don't be surprised to get hit! ****ing eh!
