Jets Re-Sign Jim Slater

The Winnipeg Jets are pleased to announce they have agreed to terms with forward Jim Slater on a new contract. As per club policy, terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Slater, 29, moved into a key role for the Jets this past season, playing in a career-high 78 games. The 2002 first-round draft pick also earned a career-high 21 points (13G, 8A) along with 42 penalty minutes. The Lapeer, MI native has played in 449 career NHL games between Atlanta and Winnipeg for 121 career points (60G, 61A) and 322 penalty minutes. He leads all current Winnipeg Jets players with the most franchise games played at 449.

Slater also made an impact off the ice, as he was nominated for the 2011-12 NHL Foundation Award, the 2011-12 King Clancy Memorial Award and the 2011-12 Bill Masterton Trophy.

Slater was originally drafted by the Atlanta Thrashers in the first round, 30th overall, in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft.

Solid bottom sixer, would be even better if he dropped them more though.

Guy is a solid 4th line player, but I wonder why he doesn't drop the mitts more often. He could. He's a decent scrapper.

Couldn't have happen to a nicer guy, would have like to see him leave the Pig. He doesn't drop them as much due to his PCS that kept him out for just about the whole season, after colliding with Byfuglien in the last season in Atlanta.

Hopefully they resign Glass and keep the GST line together.

Although there isn't a heavy on the line, there is 2 solid MWs and Slater can hold his own, they're entertaining to watch.
