Jets Add Brett MacLean From Waiver Wire

The Winnipeg Jets are pleased to announce they have claimed forward Brett MacLean off waivers. MacLean was placed on waivers by the Phoenix Coyotes and will now report to the Jets.

The native of London, ON, played the majority of last season with the San Antonio Rampage of the AHL, where he compiled 50 points (23g, 27a) in 51 games played. He also appeared in 13 games with the Coyotes recording three points (2g, 1a) including his first career NHL goal on Dec. 29, 2010, vs. Los Angeles. During his final year of junior in 2007-08, MacLean led the OHL in goals with 61 for the Oshawa Generals. MacLean finished the year second in the OHL in scoring with 119 points (61g, 58a) in 61 games.

Although MacLean wasn't good enough to make the team, the fact that he was claimed blows. He gave Phoenix scoring depth and would have been the first call up if one of Phoenix's top six gets injured. Now they'll have to bring up a career minor leaguer or Miele (who needs at least a full year of AHL).

I would think he would take a spot away from a player like McArdle or Cormier on the 3rd line. I doubt they would have him take Glass or Thorburn's spot on the 4th line. Would be idiotic if they did.
