Yeah, I think this is good for the NHL. I personally wasn't ready to see a colourful mouth like Roenick retire yet, although I'm sure he's got a great career in broadcasting lined up when he's done. That little bit of extra grit and character will go a long way in that Sharks dressing room, imo.

Great.
Now we have to put up with the next big JR headline, of how he trained with a new world renowned trainer and is going into camp in the best shape of his life, how tough his routine was, blah blah blah.

I wonder what the contract stipulations are regarding a gag order for J.R.!

maybe they brought him in to help out with their young guns, so thor and marl and cheech can stick to hockey

Great news. Very happy to see him get a chance to play for one more season, and reach the milestone. That and it's also good to see a legit team bring him in, as opposed to him having to go to some cellar dweller just to reach the milestone. I realize everyone isn't a fan, and he's a shadow of his former self, but there is no question that he is better than numerous guys who are making the league minimum (and likely others as well). He's still good enough to be a top 12 forward. Also, as Hordi mentioned, I would guess Mark Smith wanted more playing time than the Sharks were willing to offer, and this signing would mean he's going elsewhere.

Didn't see this coming either. We were all pretty sure he was retiring....
Anyways, I actually think this is a pretty good signing by the Sharks. Roenick isn't the typical 30-goal scorer that he used to be since he has lost most of his offense, but he's still good for 10-15 goals a year, and he plays a gritty style of hockey. Not bad for a 3rd-liner on San Jose. Can't hurt.

Seriously, who wants to hear anymore from this A$$hole. The guy is a detriment to any team he is on especially post 2002. He says the call from the Sharks GM was a godsend meanwhile it was his agent to first made contact with anyone. I don't know how anyone can call this a good signing. He couldn't even hack it with the Yotes last year and they were terrible. I hope someone hurts this guy enough to make him totally regret forgoing his retirement.

Two years ago he blamed the King trainers for his bad year. They never got his skates "right" the whole year.
New headline in Shark Camp. Coyotes trainers to blame for Roenicks poor season. Apparently they never taped his stick correctly. Its going to be a disaster for the Sharks to have this guy. He wont have a sorry excuse for a coach like Gretzky coddling his ego all year. |
