Jason Strudwick was drafted by the Islanders in 1994. In March of 1998 he was traded to Vancouver for Canucks legend Gino Odjick. Not happy about the trade, Odjick commented to the Vancouver media that he didn't even know who Jason Strudwick was.

Seemingly set up by the hockey gods, the Islanders were in Vancouver that week for a game. New Canuck Jason Strudwick initiated a fight with none other than Gino Odjick. Odjick won the fight, and the fans in Vancouver gave him a resounding standing ovation.

Even better was Jason Strudwick post game. When asked about why he went looking for a fight with Odjick, Strudwick replied, "he said he didn't know who I was so I thought I would introduce myself."

I was a fan of his from that moment on. He was a solid team guy who was tough and always willing to look out for a teammate. The kind of guy the league is severly lacking these days.
