Jason Strudwick Retires

Announced yesterday, Struds spent last season with Sodertalje in Sweden (Allsvenskan). Great team guy and a real throwback 6th/7th defensman that there just aren't that many of in the league anymore. Pretty impressive fight card for a guy that didn't fight much more than necessary and took a regular shift on the blueline.

Final NHL line: 674 Games, 55 Points, 811 PIM

Jason Strudwick fight card highlights: Odjick, Chase, VandenBussche (x4), Odgers (x2), Baumgartner, Hordichuk (x3), Janssen, Bissonnette, Barch (x2), Cote (x2), Orr, Boulerice, Rupp, Neil, Cummins, Burnett, Oliwa (x2), Berube (x2), Low, Shanahan

Sad to see Struds go, but the writing was on the wall.

A hell of a teammate and you occasionally would pull the upset card on better fighters.

Best of luck in retirement!

The NHL needs more of these players who can play tough, drop the gloves, and take responsabilities in the game.

I thought he retired years ago. But, in all seriousness, its always sad to see a tough player leave the league. A little bit of all of us dies every time that this happens.

He had a good career. The perfect bottom pairing D-man when he was in his prime.

When did drop them he did it quite well over all. Wins over Orr, Hordi, Berube, Barch, Carcillo, Dorsett, Janssen, Oliwa, Berube, Rupp, etc etc etc.

Yeah, i always liked him as an underrated, overlooked fighter. Switched hands well. Just another veteran put out to pasture of the type the NHL misses already.

I absoutely LOVED Struds' honesty when he played on the Oilers... the ULTIMATE team guy...

Smart too...

Might end up an assistant somewhere in the show...

Absolutely loved Strudwick when he was a Ranger. He was a perfect 6/7 dman who brought grit and honesty to the game.

He stood up for his teammates and took on some real tough customers. My favorite Strudwick moment was when he battled with Chris Neil after Neil had injured Avery and taken a run at Petr Prucha.

Thanks for the memories Jason. You and Chris McAllister were my favourite people on the Canucks back then. Back then Canucks were not a group of women

A solid fighter with a great fight card. Always was a meat and potatoes kind of guy that gave everything he had. Reminded me of a modern day Dean Kennedy. Enjoy retirement Mr Strudwick you were a beauty.
