Jaroslav Halak On The Trade Market

http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/2009/...nadiens_halak/

Quote:
The Montreal Canadiens are actively shopping back-up goaltender Jaroslav Halak.

Sources told Sportsnet that the Canadiens would need a top-six forward to part with 24-year-old Slovak netminder who is 6-4-0 with a .907 save percentage and 2.80 goals against average in 11 appearances for the club this season.

According to La Presse, the St. Louis Blues and Detroit Red Wings are among the teams that may be interested in acquiring Halak's services.

Halak would be a solid trading chip for the Habs as he is stuck behind Carey Price in Montreal and has a bargain-priced salary at $775,000. However, Halak is set to become a restricted free agent this summer.

I actually agree. He's better than both of their guys already in my mind.

We already have 2 backup goalies, we don't need another one.

He's a back-up only because of Price.

He's not the solution to any problems here in Philly, he's not a number one.

Actually he very well can be, and at this point, probably would be if he weren't behind a guy like Price.

But hey, when has Philly ever made a proper decision on their goaltending woes?

True. I agree Halak is a pretty good goalie but for a top 6 forward I'd
rather Philly try to go after Giguere from Anaheim or for that matter
maybe Hiller if he's available. Not many option out there so I think
they'll ride out Boosh/Backlund unless the floor drops out.

Yeah, it's already been said, but between Giguerre and Halak, it's as close to a buyer's market for goalies I remember seeing. Halak certainly made the case for himself on Tuesday. What was the last count, 45 saves?

I would snatch out Halak over Emery any day.

But Halak would also fit in with the Wings. Better than what they got as well.

I would also take Halak over Huet (even though Huet is playing well right now). But nobody is going to jump for Huet at that contract.

So Halak's the next franchise goaltender for the Flyers? You're telling me he's worth shedding a guy like Scott Hartnell or Claude Giroux? At his best he's as good as Emery if not a tiny tiny bit better, that's not worth a top 6 forward.

I'd say he's worth one of those guys yeah. Especially Hartnell...isnt as if the guy is lighting things up.

A top 6 forward?

Pavol Demitra? Would give him away for Halak in a minute...but Vancouver is covered with Luongo. Could get Halak anyway. Better than Raycroft.

In any event, even though they are asking for a top 6, doesn't mean they get that. I suspect something lower and either prospects or picks.

When you look at Halak's value, he really is only worth whatever you can get with restricted free agency. Whatever the compensation is with that is what he is worth.
