Jarkko Ruutu Suspended for Two Games

Ottawa's Jarkko Ruutu has been suspended for two games by the NHL for a biting incident that occurred in Tuesday night's loss to Buffalo.

Ruutu was suspended after a Wednesday morning's disciplinary hearing with NHL Senior Executive Vice President of Hockey Operations Colin Campbell, a phone conversation between the two parties that began at 11:30 a.m.

In Tuesday's incident, Ruutu bit the gloved thumb of Buffalo's Andrew Peters, breaking the skin's surface, during a first-period altercation at the 13:13 mark.

Ruutu will miss Thursday's game against Boston, the Northeast Division leader, and Saturday's home game against the New York Rangers. He is eligible to return Jan. 13 against Carolina

It is the second time this season that Ruutu has been suspended this season. On Nov. 12, Ruutu earned a two-game ban for an elbow he delivered to the head of Montreal's Maxim Lapierre in a Nov. 11 game.

Ruutu now is considered a repeat offender under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Accordingly, he forfeits $31,707.32 in salary based on the number of games in the season (82), rather than the number of days (186). The money goes to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.

Haha, I agree with that because Peters' reaction was embarrassing, but Ruutu DID deserve to be suspended. Seriously - why would you BITE someone? That's a wussy stunt to pull. You don't do that in the NHL. Ruutu needs to quit pulling crap like that. Biting someone in a scrum is just plain stupid.

As much as I hate Ruutu, I do love to watch the guy play. You never know what the f*ck he's going to do, but it always does a fantastic job of making the opposing team and fans want to slit his throat. Biting was a bit extreme, and I think that may have been a bit of an overreaction by peters, but I can't really complain about the league's judgment on this play.

Should've run him into the board and gave Peters a concussion. That only gets a one game suspension.

Personally this is worse than what Avery did/said and he only gets 2 games? Also, before it is stated, Ruutu is no choir boy and does have a history of being a douche so past reputation could be cited here for him as well....and yes, Peters should have pounded the sh!t out of him as well.

I dont understand how a guy uses his sharp tounge to get 6 games and another guy actually uses his teeth as a weapon and only gets 2 games. Last night I said 10, I knew that was far fetched but I honestly thought he'd get 5-6. I was wrong..

Surprisingly this is only Ruutu's second suspension, the other one was also this season and for 2 games.
