Jamie Langenbrunner to Undergo Hip Surgery

ST. LOUIS – St. Louis Blues Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Armstrong announced today forward Jamie Langenbrunner is scheduled to undergo hip surgery and will be out indefinitely.

Langenbrunner, 37, has dressed in four games and posted one assist this season. Last season, the 6’0, 205-pound forward posted 24 points (six goals, 18 assists) in 70 appearances with the Blues including becoming the 21st American-born player to play in 1,100 NHL games on Mar. 27, 2012. Overall, Langenbrunner has played in 18 NHL seasons, amassing 663 points (243 goals, 420 assists) and 837 penalty minutes in 1,109 games. A two-time Stanley Cup Champion (Dallas 1999, New Jersey 2003), Langenbrunner has registered 87 points (34 goals, 53 assists) in 146 NHL playoff games.

The Cloquet, Minnesota native was signed by the Blues as a free agent on July 6, 2011. Langenbrunner was originally drafted by Dallas in the second round, 35th overall, of the 1993 NHL Entry Draft.

Blues media saying Langer wants to come back next year. Not wanting to end his career going out like this.

I wish him well to come back from this operation and be able to recover completely. I also applaud his mindset to try and come back next year. It would be nice to see him leave the game on his terms, not because of an injury.

He will be 38 next year, and to play at the level he has played at would be enough of a challenge. Add this in and we might have seen the last of him in an NHL uniform.

If it's just bone spurs , he could make a return next season , if it's hip replacement his career at this level of hockey is over !!

Jamie has been one of my favorite players over the years , I wish him all the luck with this setback and hope he is able to make it back next season ..

Definitely wish him the best & have enjoyed watching him play as well. Big part of the Devils cup win.

And if it is hip replacement surgery...my father had his hip replaced and his doctors strongly advised against him playing in his no-contact, over 45 league. Too risky to shatter/break the hip. He's 66 so not as young (or in the shape) of Langenbrunner, but if it is replacement he's likely done.
